Default List of NBA vs FIBA basketball games

    Hi,

These games have appeared in the thread about Kirilenko, but we think they deserve a new topic.

I have been compiling all the info in a wikipedia article (I can't add the link as I don't have 10 messages yet) but some people have said there are some games missing.
You can find the article if you search for "List of NBA vs FIBA games" at the English wikipedia.

I will copy the message I wrote in the other thread yesterday:

One of these were the New Jersey Nets for sure (I remember the pictures on an Italian basketball magazine). It's impossible to find infos about this exhibition tournament (scores, etc.).

A Yugoslav team played a friendly against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the States: I can't remember which team, Partizan Belgrade maybe. The score was 132-79, or sort of. I can't remember anything else, I just read two lines on another basketball magazine after the game was played.
Hi, I have been compiling that list which you can find on the wikipedia.

I have been done some researching about that Italian tournament in 1984 thanks to the link from google news that LuDux posted:
    and I have found this:

5-sep-84?? NJ Nets 127-80 Simac Milano at Milan
5-sep-84?? Phoenix Suns ???-??? CiaoCrem Varese at Milan

7-sep-84 NJ Nets 142-106 Granarolo Bolgona at Bologna
7-sep-84 Phoenix Suns 118-93 Simac Milano at Bologna

9-sep-84?? NJ Nets 123-111 CiaoCrem Varese at Varese
9-sep-84?? Phoenix Suns 121-87 Granarolo Bologna at Varese

Do you have or could you find any other information??

And what about the Cavaliers-Partizan game, do you remember the year it was played??? or the exact score?? I have tried to search with those details you said but I can't find anything.

    Thanks and best regards.

PD: if you think I should create a new topic please tell me.

I don't remember it. I heard it was played (somebody here at IBN told me), but I never saw it and I haven't seen anything about it.

    Ok, thanks.

Look what I have found in another forum, if any of you can read Spanish:
    http://foros.acb.com/viewtopic.php?t...r=asc&start=60

To sum up, it says Siracuse Nationals played several games in Europe, Iran, Lebanon and Egypt back in 1955.

    First, it says they played:
vs Austrian NT in Wien (85-40)
vs Czechoslovakian NT in Prague (96-54)
vs Milan selection in Milan (99-58)
vs Rome selection in Rome (108-59)

And then the main article explains several games, 5, in Spain:
vs Catalonian NT in Barcelona (106-65)
vs Spanish combined team in Barcelona (95-65)
vs Castillian NT in Madrid (86-61)
and 2 more games where Nats gave 20 points to their opponents at the beginning and 20 more at half time, the results were:
vs Spanish combined team in Madrid (100-91, 100-51 real score)
vs Catalonian NT in Barcelona (111-98, 111-58 real score)

The games in Asia and Egypt were exhibition games where Syracuse Nats played against themselves making 2 different teams.

    Regards.

Yep, somebody wrote that game on the wikipedia article, but there I just pretend to compile games between NBA franchises and FIBA official teams or national squads.
Games where All Stars teams took part are countless. For example, there have been many played by Julius Erving's All Stars, Magic All Stars, and teams like that.
Another example is my club's Centenary celebration game, when we beat 84-78 a NBA team called Nike All Stars and composed by Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Rod Strickland, Dereck Fisher, Keith Van Horn... amongst others, in Barcelona in 1999.

I'll write the updated list here again when all this preseason games are finished, meanwhile you can see them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NBA_vs_FIBA_games

Yesterday I saw Estudiantes-Grizzlies and Real Madrid-Raptors at the Palace in Madrid and the 2nd game was really exciting although I wanted Raptors to win.
I never wanna see Real Madrid winning, not even if they played against themselves...

    Best regards.

Perhaps we will need another list of these types of games. Speaking of which, does anybody have any videos of the Oscar Schmidt/Magic Johnson All-Star games?

    Thanks, Xagasi.

Same here with the Lakers. You and I are called "haters," Xagasi!!

I don't like the Lakers either, my favourite NBA team used to be Boston Celtics, in fact it is still, although I also like Memphis Grizzlies now because of Pau Gasol and JC Navarro.
And Toronto Raptors too, because of José Calderón and the "porno player" Jorge Garbajosa.

Spanish teams have won 3 out of 4 games in the last 2 seasons!!!
Although 1 one was won by Real Madrid...

The updated list until next year:

    Sept. 8, 1978 Washington Bullets 97 - 98 Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel)
Aug. 28, 1984 Phoenix Suns 111 - Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel)

I did some digging for these games and this is what I've found:

1st game was played in Tbilisi, Georgia
2nd game was played in Vilnius, Lithuania
3rd game was played in Moscow in front of a full Luzhniky Arena where Alexandr Volkov lead the USSR to a win over Dominique's Hawks scoring 37 points in 40 minutes.

In fact Hawks were so impressed by him that they bought his right for $200 000 right away... and then drafted him in the summer in the 6th round... he was probably one of the first Soviet players to play in the NBA...

More to follow if anyone interested...

I tried to find the venues in Tblisi and Vilnius but I can't find them.
Another series of games I lack some information is the Italian Tour in 1984, I'm not 100% sure of some scores and cities where those games were played.

Xagasi, do you have the information about where the games were played? I'm curious, because the issue came up in another thread.

In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas
