    Global Loses to Vietnam

    Published February 12, 2018, 3:00 AM
    By JONAS TERRADO

Game Tomorrow (Panaad Stadium, Bacolod City)
    7:30 p.m. – Ceres vs Boeungket

Global-Cebu conceded the only goal with 15 minutes before stoppage time and fell 1-0 to Vietnamese side FLC Thanh Hoa in Saturday’s opener of the AFC Cup at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.

The Philippines Football League runner-up witnessed Faye score the winner with a header off a cross from the left flank to absorb a defeat in a game held amid foggy conditions in the Vietnamese capital.

Patrick Deyto made several key saves behind the sticks for Global, including a pair of early attempts by Faye, but was unable to complete a third late in the match.

        Ceres Seeks Payback vs Singapore

        By: Cedelf P. Tupas - Reporter / @cedelfptINQ
        Philippine Daily Inquirer / 05:06 AM February 27, 2018

Philippines Football League champions Ceres-Negros hopes to solidify its hold of top spot as it clashes with Home United of Singapore in the rematch of their AFC Cup Asean zone finals last year at Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday night.

With only the top team in the group guaranteed of making the knockout stage, every game matters for the Busmen, who lost to Home United the last time they played in Singapore in the first leg of the Asean zone finals.

The Busmen went on to beat Home at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod to rule the Asean zone.

Thailand is to Football what the Philippines is to Basketball in South East Asia.

Mark Hartmann is also the very first Filipino ever to score a goal in four of South East Asia's major leagues (Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and now Thailand).

Azkals’ Mark Hartman Biding his Time in Thai League after First Ubon UMT Goal

          Kelvin Leong

Azkals striker Mark Hartmann in awe of Thai League standards after first goal for Ubon UMT

After two games on the bench, Filipino striker Mark Hartmann got his first start for new club Ubon UMT in a 3-1 loss away to Nakhon Ractahasima FC.

The former Geylang International and Sarawak FA forward struck in the 17th minute but could not prevent his club from their second loss of the season.

Ubon UMT opened their campaign with a 1-0 away loss to Navy FC before securing a 3-1 home victory against Prachuap FC. Hartmann’s first goal gave his side the lead in their third game of the season but goals from Paulo Rangel, Tufy and Attapong Nooprom saw the Swat Cats seal a stunning comeback win.

Having plied his trade in four of Southeast Asia’s top leagues – Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand – Hartmann reckons the Thai League is miles ahead of the rest.

“Three games in and I can see the difference,” Hartmann told FOX Sports Asia. “The tempo of the game is a lot higher over here.

“The players are also a lot more technically solid. The way the teams are set up and the training facilities are right up there.

“Like I said before, you just have to look at how well Thai teams like Buriram United and Muangthong United have done in the AFC Champions League and it is obvious.

Davao Aguilas Eye Title Against Kaya in Tagum City

              Thursday, March 01, 2018
              By MARIANNE L. SABERON-ABALAYAN DAVAO.

THE newly-revitalized Davao Aguilas Football Club (FC) eyes the title as it opens bid against Kaya Futbol Club of Makati on Sunday, March 4, at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City in the 2nd season of the Philippine Football League (PFL).

              Gametime is at 4 p.m.

New marketing head Michael Shaw, during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, said: "We can be realistic on how we will surpass our performance last season.. we started as a whole team, we will end as a whole team. Be rest assured that our goal is not just to participate but to win this season."

The Davao Aguilas FC, bankrolled by San Miguel Corporation, has acquired a new Korean assistant coach, nine new players from other football clubs and abroad and physical therapists to beef up the squad.

Shaw said they also partnered with country's leading sports science facility, Focus Athletics, for the players' physical program considering the series of injuries that beset the team last year.

The past couple of game days, teams like the Davao Aguilas FC, JPV Marikina FC have not been playing in their Home Pitches, instead they often ended up playing at the Binan Football Stadium or the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

No explanation has been put forth, but clearly this is not a good sign for the league. The Home Pitches are part of what makes the league exciting, and without that then it loses much of its appeal.

RE: Less and Less Active Promotion of PFL Games

I also noticed that the Philippine Football League (PFL) games aren't being promoted much anymore like they used to.

The games yesterday (Wed., Apr. 25, 2018) by Ceres Negros FC and Global Cebu FC in the 2018 AFC Cup, for example, I didn't even know there was a game until Game Day.

Before, like last year, weeks or days in advance the games would've been drummed up by the respective team's Facebook pages and the awareness would be pretty good.

But not anymore these days. These are not good signs for the league, IMHO. Not good at all.
