NBA veteran and Swift import Lewis Lloyd has passed on at the age of 60...#RIP
Lewis “Black Magic” Lloyd, one of Philadelphia’s most celebrated basketball players, died on Friday, July 5, 2019. He was 60.
One of the biggest names in the NBA once played for the Diet Sarsi Sizzlers in the 1991 First Conference. Lewis Lloyd, a certified NBA player drafted in the 4th round of the 1981 season, became a certified star when he played for the Houston Rockets from 1983 to 1987, earning a slot in the NBA Finals in 1986 against the Boston Celtics. He and Mitchell Wiggins, another former PBA import who donned the Tondeña Rum 65 colors, were banned from the NBA for 2 1/2 years after testing positive for cocaine. He was able to regain his playing spot with Rockets in 1989 and ended his career the year after, averaging 13.2 points per game.
While Lloyd played well for Diet Sarsi under Coach Yeng Guiao, he didn't fit well, forcing Guiao to replace him with Bernard (BT) Thompson midway into the conference.
Thanks for the memories, LL!
