The first three will also make Philippine basketball brighter, he said. Hope more coaches like them emerge.
Hope Cholo can help develop the women's program, being a coach in the women's basketball scene. Add something new to the coaching staff.

GILAS Pilipinas Women coach Pat Aquino is hopeful to find a naturalized player to beef up the national women's team with a busy schedule ahead this 2023.

"As of now, meron na kami na go signal from [Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas] president Al Panlilio and masayang masaya ako dun. Sabi niya, kuha ka na ng naturalized mo and sabi ko thank you," the concurrent program director gleefully shared.

Aquino is still weighing his options on whether he'll enlist a foreigner to be naturalized or fill it with overseas-based players with Filipino blood but failed to gain local status.

But the list is growing, among them Duke's Vanessa de Jesus, Michigan's Laila Phelia, Cal Berkeley's Amaya Bonner, George Washington's Aurea Gingras, and Penn's Kayla Padilla.

There's also Mai-Loni Henson who is considered a naturalized player in Fiba-sanctioned competitions and even Kelli Hayes who last saw action in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019.

Those concerns are part of Aquino's itinerary when he heads to the United States this Dec. 14 for a month-long trip, first scouring for talent while also keeping tabs with his players there.

"Walang pahinga. I'll be going around talking to the other players like Gabi Bade, Stefanie Berberabe, sila Ella [Fajardo] what are their plans? Are they coming back? Am I hoping? Am I expecting you to be here?," he said.

"Kakausapin ko rin sila and I'm gonna watch games, not just the senior games but even yung mga under-16 and under-18 ko, dadalawin ko sila like si Gabby Ramos, Kristan Yumul, Naomi Panganiban, Sumayah Sugapong, and the like. So it's gonna be busy."

But it's not just overseas which Aquino is keeping his eyes on as he also plans to extend invites to the local players who are showcasing their talents in the ongoing UAAP Season 85 women's basketball tournament.

"Definitely, I'm really preparing and I've already made a list sa mga coaches ko sa mga sesendan ng invites," he said.

Among those notables which Aquino have mentioned were Ateneo's Kaycee dela Rosa, UST's Eka Soriano and Tacky Tacatac, and La Salle's Lee Sario.

"For the country naman," he said, joking that he previously recruited a few of these players back when he was still handling National University.

Of course, holdovers like Afril Bernardino, Khate Castillo, and Janine Pontejos, and the returning Jack Animam are all still there, making the competition to make it to the Gilas Pilipinas Women roster all the more stiff.

To Aquino, though, he sees it as a good problem that the pool is expanding with the growing appreciation for women's basketball in the country.

"It's not just getting players from abroad now. We have local-based players right now. And it's good because when I go around the provinces, marami akong nakikitang mga players na lumalabas na enthusiastic sila about playing basketball, girls who like to play basketball," he said.

"Maybe that's siguro because of yung work namin nila Jack, lahat ng Gilas Women na talagang nakikilala na nang pakonti-konti. Hopefully, more will emerge. Yun naman yung goal natin sa Gilas."

As long as we can use the ineligibles wherever applicable, I'm cool with as many skilled Pinay players as we can get, so long as Philippine women's basketball will be better in the near future.

Although, it's going to be a challenge improving in FIBA Asia without the ineligibles.

How I wish we could have a high profile basketball league for our Women side because currently those who runs several tournaments for ladies are not yet on the mainstream part, hoping the PBA and SBP may revive the previous plan of putting a WPBA brand moving forward.

From this The Guidon article its says she's 6'0

                      https://theguidon.com/1112/main/2023...cey-dela-rosa/

As of writing, she is already averaging 20 points, 16 boards, and three blocks as the starting center in her first six games of UAAP Season 85. Her impressive performance in the first round of eliminations was further highlighted by a career-high monster production of 30 points and 20 rebounds against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons. This performance is proof of the great poise that the 6?0? big has shown for a rookie, fully capable of capitalizing on her good shot selection and ability to anticipate rebounds.

She might need to slide down to PF for Gilas to maximize her height. Any videos?

                          • ?The Fil-Ams will be coming, first week of April or end of March. They said yes already,? the long-time women?s national basketball team mentor said.

Among those who are expected to join Gilas Women practice later this year are Ella Fajardo of Fairleigh Dickinson University and NAIA MVP Stefanie Berberabe of Westmont College.

Depending on the performance of her French Division III club Al Aplemont, Mai-Loni Henson is also being eyed by Aquino to reinforce the squad for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia in May.

Last month, the squad invited several UAAP players to audition and were able to add more names to the pool, including UAAP Rookie of the Year Dela Rosa, Ateneo de Manila University?s Jhazmin Joson, De La Salle University?s Lee Sario and Bettina Binaohan, and players from both University of the Philippines and University of the East.

Jack Danielle Animam, according to Aquino, will also return by late March following her stint with French Division I club Toulouse, providing Gilas Women with a sizable frontcourt rotation which potentially includes her, Dela Rosa, Bernardino, and Clare Castro.

                            • I haven’t read nor heard about what eligibility ruling would be implementing on the coming Asian Games is it OCA ruling or the FIBA handbook? I hope those sports personalities who are either a quite member or those who just luriking around had the opportunity to ask POC Pres. Bambol about those stuff because the Asian Games on September and the start of the pre-Olympic qualifiers on November(?) are just around the corner.
I stand by corrected on this…because we already retained our Division 1 slot in the Asian Ranking, I think we are given a slot for that Paris pre-Oympics qualifiers.
