  • Europe's newest unicorns

I think it's time to talk about this new wave of extraordinary european talents with unique skill sets. Antetokounmpo, Porzingis, Dončić, Bender, D. Sabonis, Jokić...Some of them are taking over the NBA right now, some of them will do it in the near future. What are your thoughts on them? Feel free to add your favorites!

Bender definetely doesn`t deserve to be on that list. He sucks. He`ll be back in Europe next year. Add Cedi, he solidified himself in his first year

Except Bender all of these mentioned having heck of careers in the NBA.

New wave is coming also which likely will empower this trend even further. Sengun (partially) and Pokusevsky. Then Victor and Banchero, Buzelis. All expected to be drafted high.

Europeans pretty much dominating NBA ATM. At least more than ever.
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

          Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
          Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
          Buzelis, Lelevicius
          Murauskas, Sirvydis
          Tubelis, Krivas

You really tend to use names without any foundation. Pokusevki is not a player who showed anything in this direction. Becoming 21 this year his body is not even on the verge of being ready. He is shooting horribly, defense is bad (still better than last season) etc.

Victor is different. A guy who is 17 and delivers in Euroleague deserves to be called exceptional talent. The rest has to prove its worth

Pokusevski hasn't shown anything in this direction? A 7-footer who glides on the floor like a guard with ball handling ability like a guard definitely fits the description of a unicorn. Absolutely ridiculous ceiling...He won't be 21 until the very end of this year, he is even younger or just a bit older than a lot of lotery picks in upcoming draft... and that's not really important in his case because it's clear he is going to take a few years to get his body and physical shape up to NBA level. It's questionable whether he will achieve that potential, but it's very clear that he has that special talent which puts him into category of potential unique players. How much he improves his shooting and body will ultimately decide what kind of player he can become. Definitely showing signs of development lately in both offense and defense, and just understanding the game. My opinion is that once he improves his stamina and fitness, shooting will be a lot better. Defensively, already good as a help side defender. There is a difference between players who are still developing and players who are finished products. Pokusevski is far from being a finished product (unless you are willing to write off talents who are basically still teenagers?) and right now it's about his potential that makes him so intriguing and puts him in this category.

Everyone was looking for a new Dirk Nowitzki and I read these kind of unicorns many times if it is Bender, Porzingis etc. Most of them fail and its his second year with no or tiny developments. The truth is he has shown nothing neither in Europe nor in the NBA

Would have to watch Buzelis, still haven't had a chance to watch him more closely. Sengun is a good passing big man, but lacks diverse skill set, something that will differentiate him from others. That would be his passing, but there was a lot of good passers among big men and that skill didn't really make them unicorns (Jokic is a whole different story). Nevertheless, has a big upside and a bright future. Victor is definitely a special specimen. Potential to be maybe even better than Gobert on defense, but unlike Gobert with huge offensive skillset. Has a similar problem as Pokusevski though, he will have to improve his body because he will get easily pushed around in the NBA.

Off course they are going to fail, it doesn't mean you have to make it if you are labeled as a talent who has that kind of unique skillset. When we talk about Pokusevski no one is claiming that he has reached that status of special player but only that he has the potential to reach that status. That's a big difference. In the last month or so there is absolutely improvement compared to last year or beginning of this season. I already said that Pokusevski is different case because of his body, it doesn't matter if this is his second year, it will take more time for him, and still only 20.

When he shows glimps of that potential we can talk about it. I dont see any reason to talk about special cases if they have shown anything.

Special features makes you being drafted but thats all. Now its up to him to show anything. In most of the cases if you dont show any development in the second year its gonna be very difficult.

He is not showing glimpses? It's precisely glimpses that he is showing what makes you believe he has that potential. It's easy to recognize those moments if you just browse through his random highlights.

Well, however you watch Pokusevski showed in NBA a bit more than Larkin ever did

When you unleash 29, 25, 23, 22 points games, you show some glimpse definitely. Long career ahead of him.
