      1. It cost (estimate ) $ 1 M to naturalize via congress a player
      2. It cost $ 100K to invite an NBA player to play for a 2 week tournament for the Gilas
3 it cost $ 20k to process an ineligible to get a passport (to take a NP ) spot
      4. To get a non NBA player (import in foreign leagues) like Jolibee to play multiple windows for Gilas year round (like Marcus) cost minimum $ 200k per year
      5. It cost nothing additional to support Kouame's annual service to Gilas ( It's sunk cost with Ateneo)

All of the above have to be decisions of the head of the program (Program director) Tab. it's foolish to be processing for recruitment a player who does not have the support/ decision of the program director.

So with those factors , form your team (both training full time team and eventual 2023 WC team) both teams roosters are different for obvious circumstances.

      So in summary :

      Mccullough/ other new prospects - $ 1 M ( naturalize) + 600 ( $ 200k x 3 yrs) = $ 1.6 M avaialble from 2021 to 2023 full time

Kouame = $ 750 k ( $ 250 k is already spent for processing , no additional pay) avaialble now until 2023 , with possibility to play as local in 2023 WC (subject to exception)

Clarkson = $ 100k for 2023 WC stint ( not eligible for exception)

Brownlee - $ 1.3 M ( naturalise via congress , plus $ 100k per year (cheaper as not highly sought by foreingn leagues) * maybe SMB can pay process congress.
That numbers shows us that spb must prioritize Clarkson and Kouame

Correct. And given the direction of the program (as far as we know), they are doing just that.

Just read the FIBA guidelines and FIBAs letter to Greg on rational for exception

On Greg's case eh because he was here for 10 years that's why he get the nod.. because if sbp will line up kouame as a naturalized player in any FIBA games then he will have hard time to get an exemption.. right? How long kouame stays here? And also one thing is he needs to be based here even he will finish his uaap years.. I don't know if he can play in the pba but I hope pba will allow kouame to play in the league.. one of the requirements is he needs to have a tie up commitment with the federation's pro league (which is here is pba).. that is also the reason why Greg get exemption because he play here 10 years including cesafi until pba..
That is incorrect, there is no specified period (e.g. 10 yrs- Spencer) to merit an exception, secondly playing years is not limited to professional leagues (PBA) , it's any domestic league including (UAAP) , 3rd a pemium is given to age when player started residency in the country ( e.g. Spencer , fotu, Lisch etc etc) as a teenager . Kouame - 16 yrs old
4th other connections to the country such as a student and having foster family ( he's fatherless) and financially dependent are factors given credit points when reviewing the case

That's a myth that if you play as a NP for a country you will always be classified as one, there is no such provision in the guidlines in of FIBA

you need to understand it's an exception to the "16 year old rule", so understand the principle of the 16 yr old rule. FIBA's view on elgibiltiy is "developed in the country's program and adoption of the country as a minor

Greg is developed in the country and adopted the country as his residence as a minor - Pringle did not ! ( will not get exception)

But Greg has something that Ange doesn’t: a Filipino mother. That’s one strike against Ange.

one thing we don't have now..its was actually the late Patrick Baumann who approved Greg's eligibility.Plus Kuoame doesn't have a passport up to this very day.

                  • As much as I like Ange as our NP, I also really like the height, mobility, and skills of McCullough as a wing. Yes, we have future wing players but do we have a 6'9'' or even taller wing like him? If you observed, teams with 6'7" to 6'11" mobile (more mobile than Japeth) 3 player almost always have an advantage.

And if you read FIBAs letter for reason exception, and the guidelines the connection to a Filipino mother wasn't highlighted as a major reason (obviously though that is how he got a passport)

But rather sec gen highlighted the following consistent with the guidelines and the principle of the U16 rule. - we note Greg moved to the Philippines, 17 yrs old lived, studied and played xxx years from the age off xxx (minor), that's the main basis, it's consistent

While that certainly helps, the guidelines and reasons are consistent with others who got exception from other countries (not necessarily with a strong relation with Patrick)
Here is where we have to move away from this mindset of palakasan or favours, just follow the rules and guidelines and there is really no problem

A swing, a big man height perimeter skilled player is actually the most sought after player these days. As they are the most unstoppable mismatches - length of a big yet skill and speed of a guard

not necessary. qatar has the bosnian and african kids playing as locals.

sad to say but KP is the only one that we have. others are either not tall enough or not skilled enough.

                              • ramos is a good wing player but he is just 6'5--no longer a good height for a 4. he is more of a 2/3 tho than 3/4, so he can still provide some size on the wings for gilas.

on the other hand, thirdy is already 23. right now he is a 2/3, hopefully he can transition to being a combo guard, and bring size to our backcourt.
