Setback for Azkals: Reichelt Tears Knee

            04:45 AM September 2nd, 2016

A CANCELLED friendly and a slew of injuries have thrown off the Philippine Azkals’ preparations for the AFF Suzuki Cup kicking off on Nov. 19 at Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Patrick Reichelt, a veteran of the 2012 and 2014 Suzuki Cup tournaments, became the latest player to join the injured list after suffering a torn right ACL recently.

The Ceres-La Salle standout sustained the injury while playing against S-League side Tampines Rovers in the Singapore Cup semifinals last week.

The injury rules Reichelt out of the Suzuki Cup, just like teammate Simone Rota who is set to undergo surgery for a similar injury.

It was another heavy blow for the Azkals, who had their friendly against Turkmenistan called off at the 11th hour last week.

              10:30 p.m. – Kyrgyzstan vs Philippines

The Philippine Azkals will be without three key players due to injuries when they take on Kyrgyzstan tonight in their only friendly match of the international window in Bishkek.

Patrick Reichelt and Simone Rota are out because of injuries while Stephan Schrock won’t be suiting up because of unknown reasons in the Azkals’ 10:30 p.m. Manila encounter with the Kyrgyz booters.

Reichelt sustained an ACL injury for Ceres-La Salle in the Singapore Cup semifinals, Rota has been dealing with a minor injury while no one has made a clear explanation over Schrock’s absence.

Philippines' Simone Rota 'Praying' to be Fit for AFF Suzuki Cup

Presented by TCL, the story of Philippines' Simone Rota, who began life in an orphanage before achieving his dreams.

Philippines defender Simone Rota says he is "praying about making the Suzuki Cup" after a knee injury though his AFF dreams into jeopardy.

The Italy-raised fullback, who's one of a core of Philippine national players with European roots like midfielders Stephan Schrock and Martin Steuble, should know in the next week if he will be able to make the biennial tournament.

The 31-year-old, who helped the Azkals make the semifinals of the 2014 Suzuki Cup, hurt himself when playing for his UFL club side Stallion against JP Voltes on Aug. 20.

"I was running, with maybe 10 minutes left in the game and trying to anticipate the striker, and then my boot got stuck in the artificial grass," Rota told ESPN FC.

"As revealed by an MRI scan, I have a partial ACL and PCL tear, and will undergo a functional and movement test in seven days' time to determine if surgery is required or not."

Rota, who has scored two international goals in 21 appearances since making his Azkals' debut in 2014, added that he would do everything he can to make it onto Thomas Dooley's squad. Philippines, co-hosts along with Myanmar, will be in Group A, along with defending champions Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.

This team has been underachieving for the last 5 years already..

Although its a bad sight to see, that a sport being loved by 500 million people being just dominated by a country who doesnt care about the sport except for a few..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

"Underachieving"? Don't you mean "Overachieving", meaning "to do better than is expected"?

Azkals Take on North Korea in Another International Friendly

                          Posted on October 10, 2016

THE Philippine national men’s football team plays its second friendly in four days today, taking on visiting North Korea at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium (RMFS).

The scheduled match at 8 p.m. is a follow-up to the Philippine Azkals’ friendly held last Friday against Bahrain where the former lost, 3-1. It is also a continuation of their buildup for the ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup in November which the country will host along with Myanmar.

Against Bahrain, the Azkals struggled to dictate the tempo of the match right from the start.

Bahraini captain Aadem Khabir scored the first goal at the four-minute mark to give his team the early 1-0 lead which it held for the rest of the opening half.

He was once again on the firing end a minute into the second half to complete his brace and a 2-0 lead for the visiting side.

The Azkals, however, would slice the deficit into half four minutes later by way of a goal from debuting Mike Ott, the brother of Philippine team veteran Manny.

Mr. Ott came in as a second-half substitute and immediately made his presence felt by converting a volley from Martin Steuble to score his first international goal, sending the crowd at the RMFS into a frenzy.

The Philippines tried to build on the momentum of Mr. Ott’s goal but Bahrain regrouped and staved off the home’s team challenge.

Bahrain took the game out of reach in stoppage time when Mazrooq Alromaihi scored another goal off a header for the final score.
