So a torn meniscus isn't as serious as an ACL tear?

"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

But unfortunately we dont know how much of an impact this will have on AJ mentally and emotionally. For certain even after he gets healed, AJ wont be the same as before. Hate to say it pero by 2023 he already is "damaged goods". I know its harsh to say that and of course we all want the best for AJ...but it is really tough to perform 100 percent knowing you are injury prone.Originally posted by PeeZonesKai is a top ten lottery pick come draft day and the best team for him is the spurs...Kai is way more skilled OFFENSIVELY than duncan, yao, aldridge, kp. etc..Kai is way better offensively than Porzingis by a mile...Kareem isnt really way far than Kai..decent bball IQ for both MJ and Kobe but Kai belongs to the highly skilled and high IQ players...I see talent clearly and they cant.

Now more than ever I really see Kuoame as an essential part of the Gilas frontline in the next 10 years.
We really need to have a fall back plan for our Gilas bigs in the event that Kai and AJ are not available for major FIBA tournaments in the next decade. It is a must that we have at least one athletic big who can defend the post and be a decent rim protector. Someone at least 6'10" to match up against the tall mobile athletic bigs of other countries. And sorry Go, Balti, Carino nor Tamayo do not fit in this category. Ehg as we all witnessed Go and company couldnt handle and stop Thailand's 6'9" Jakwaran..how much more the other countries.
Here's the thing we don't have anyone or big from the local scene..from highschool or college..who fits in this category..who approximates what an AJ Edu or Angelo Kuoame brings. Nope not even Demisana...his frame is the typical lanky/soft pinoy big..he is best suited as a stretch 4 as well like Balti.Originally posted by PeeZonesKai is a top ten lottery pick come draft day and the best team for him is the spurs...Kai is way more skilled OFFENSIVELY than duncan, yao, aldridge, kp. etc..Kai is way better offensively than Porzingis by a mile...Kareem isnt really way far than Kai..decent bball IQ for both MJ and Kobe but Kai belongs to the highly skilled and high IQ players...I see talent clearly and they cant.

A torn meniscus, though not as bad, is still a bad injury especially long term. AJ's prior injury was an ACL and meniscus tear on his right knee. If this was the same knee, this is a reoccurrence of a meniscus tear which leads me to fear the stability of his right knee. Meniscus tears are generally good news as they don't hamper the player, but they could lead to long term issues especially with how it's corrected.
A repaired meniscus takes longer to heal, but is more stable for recovery. A removed meniscus (remove part injured) takes around a month or so to recover from, but may lead to exacerbated knee injuries in the future. Dwyane Wade had his meniscus removed in college and this came back to hurt him in the pros. This was also the case with Brandon Roy who had his career cut short due to degenerative knees.
If this happened on the left leg, then I would be worried because that means it's overcompensating for the prior injured leg. Derrick Rose tore his left ACL and then went on to hurt his right meniscus. Either leg the injury occurred on, there is a chance that AJ Edu won't be the same or would deal with knee injuries the rest of his career. This isn't guaranteed though. It's possible that this is a temporary and minor setback. I think he's out indefinitely which suggests Toledo is being conservative with their recovery plan for AJ which is what's best for his future.

Edu out for the season, as expected. Info from the Toledo forum:
"TK mentioned in his post game remarks that AJ is out for the year after arthroscopic knee surgery. coach didn't specify what for other that it was unrelated to the ACL/MCL injury and that it "went very well". usually, arthroscopic surgeries are for minor to moderate knee injuries. like 6 week to 4 month recovery times. i'm sure even if it is relatively minor, with AJ's past knee injuries they will take it slow. he was in a full leg brace w a crutch at the EMU game and apparantly had surgery wednesday or thursday."

I wonder in any Toledo forum, thinks that it was a big mistake lending AJ to play for BG since this injuries might be related.

We need to understand that w/ his history of injuries, PRO teams will not lend him for any FIBA games except for WC or Olympics.. Also we need to take care of him of not getting burned out in a FIBA games..

I can only imagine what is going on with the mind of the kid, it sucks. I really feel for him. The first couple of minutes of AJ Edu vs Argentina in that batang gilas fiba world cup, I knew we are in for a treat. Kid just got a full confidence from his div 1 experience to go out and dominate that tournmanent, and in just one coast to coast...snap.... What could have been for this kid. All posters mostly agree here that Edu was more superior than Kai during those times (he was older, but still) you can just see it on his skill set and way of dominating before he went down with that bullshit ACL. Sigh.

Well this might also changed his mind about competitive basketball, pain, frustration, depression, etc all factors to what he's decision after college,he will weigh it in,think if its worlth the pain and more future injuries to suit up for Gilas or any pro team in the future.

We hope that SBP doesn't take the stance of "what have you done for me lately",we haven't heard anything publicly they're sorry to hear about it,and they're supporting his rehab.
