  • IBN 2015 FIBA Asia Championship Prediction Game

    Following the example of our Greek friend christodoulou76 and his successful IBN EuroBasket Prediction Game, I hereby volunteer myself to run the 2015 InterBasket FIBA Asia Championship Prediction Game.

    If anyone else is willing to run this in my stead, I would gladly step aside.

    *** START ***

    2015 InterBasket FIBA Asia Championship Prediction Game

    The rules are simple.

    General Rules

    Submit your predictions of every game in each day of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in this thread.

    You can only submit game predictions once. Your first post will be counted as final, succeeding posts will not be counted.

    Submit your predictions before the deadline of each game day. For the first round, the deadline is 0900H China Standard Time of each game day.
    Posts after that time for each game day will not be counted.

    At the end of each game day, as soon as I am able, I will post the daily standings, including the cumulative results for each round and for the entire tournament. The standings also include individual and country rankings.

    Nation Clause

    To include your country in the nation rankings, simply specify your original (if living in another country or otherwise) or current (if naturalized) nationality by going to Settings -> Edit Profile and select your Country Flag. If you do not set your flag to that of your original country, your original country will lose points to that of the country whose flag you have chosen.

    For example, you placed the US flag in your profile when in fact you are from PH, then all your individual points will go to US and not PH.

    If you placed no country flag in your profile, you will still get the individual points but no country will get points from you.

    Game Rules

    Enter your guesses under the following format:
    PHI-PLE +/- xx

    If you think the Philippines will win by 10 points, write:
    PHI-PLE +10
    But if you think Palestine will win by 15 points, write:
    PHI-PLE -15

    We will be using IOC codes here. For complete IOC codes of each participating country in the tournament:

    Group A
    IRI - Islamic Republic of Iran
    JPN - Japan
    IND - India
    MAS - Malaysia

    Group B
    PHI - Philippines
    HKG - Hong Kong
    KUW - Kuwait
    PLE - Palestine

    Group C
    CHN - China
    JOR - Jordan
    KOR - South Korea (trivia: PRK is the IOC code for North Korea aka People's Republic of Korea)
    SIN - Singapore

    Group D
    LIB - Libnan (Arabic name for Lebanon)
    TPE - Chinese Taipei
    QAT - Qatar
    KAZ - Kazakhstan

    Points System

    * if your prediction of the winning team is correct = 5 pts.
    * if you predict the exact point difference of the final score you get 5 extra pts, for a total of 10 pts.
    * your point difference prediction is off by 1 point, you get 4 extra pts, for a total of 9 pts.
    * your point difference prediction is off by 2 = 3 extra, total 8 pts
    * your point difference is off by 3 = 2 extra, total 7 pts
    * your point difference is off by 4-6 = 1 extra, total 6 pts
    * your prediction of the winning team is incorrect = only 1 pt (for I am kind)

    Note that if you get the winning team wrong, you will only get 1 pt.
    Therefore, you are not eligible for the bonus points because you did not get the winning team right.

    Elimination round games are weighted at 0.8x (same as the FIBA Americas weight in the FIBA rankings).
    Final round games are weighted at 5x (same as the World Cup and Olympic weight)

    Now you wonder, why the final round games are weighed too high?

    Short answer: Nobody cares about elimination round games, period.

    Long answer: I intended the final round games as a comeback mechanic. Even if you lag behind in the elimination round, you can still come out on top if you guess enough final round games right. BUT, even if you do well in the eliminations, mess up enough times and you lose.

    By the way, the perfect score is 1000 points.

    I challenge you guys to guess every game in the tournament, who knows? You might get that elusive perfect score.

    UPDATE: Tie-breaking rules

    If two or more players are tied for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in any given Day, Round, or the entire tourament, tie-breakers follow this order:

    1) Number of correct predictions or Checks;
    2) Number of correct predictions Within 3;
    3) Number of correct and exact predictions in the Final Round (including Classification 5-8) or Fifties;
    4) Number of correct and exact predictions in the First, Second, and Classification 9-16 Rounds or Eights;
    5) Number of days participated;
    6) Player Country average;
    7) Sudden Death Basketball Quiz (lol)

    *** END ***

    Best wishes to everyone!

        Sorry, I have to change the points system a bit, because I realized I made the allowable gaps too wide. See first post for details.

        Anyways, happy guessing!

                IRI, IND, PHI, KOR, and CHN are heavily favored so far.

                As expected, people are divided over the games in Group D, aka the Group of Death.

                        Being the only one with this prediction, do I get special points if it's correct?
