  • 2015 CBC Championship

Not sure why they are holding this two years in a row, but the tournament got underway in Tortola today. Top four will advance to next year's Centrobasket.

    Group A
US Virgin Islands 77 Cayman Islands 65
British Virgin Islands 84 St. Vincent 69

    Group B
    Bahamas 57 Bermuda 38
    Antigua 80 Guyana 60

Barbados is the fifth team in Group A, while Surinam(!) is the fifth team in Group B. Antigua looks like the favorite to grab the second spot in Group B and qualify for their first Centrobasket since 2004.

Championship: US Virgin Islands 71 Bahamas 65
3rd Place: Antigua 82 British Virgin Islands 73
            5th Place: Surinam 87 St. Vincent 80
            7th Place: Barbados 78 Bermuda 73

USVI defends their championship despite missing four of their top five scorers from last year's CBC tournament. Surinam with a spectaular comeback to take fifth place, outscoring St. Vincent 29-7 in the final six minutes. Pretty good showing for a team that rarely competes internationally and as far as I know has just one pro.

Virgin Islands with two interesting youngsters (both 1995), Khalid Hart and Angel Rivera-Cuencas.

Hart already completed his soph seasaon at Marist, he was the 2014 MAAC Rookie of the year.

Rivera, of Puerto Rican origin, played his freshman season in 2014-15 and is an excellent passer. He led the tournament in assists, as well his school Stetson.

Both starred for ISV team at the 2012 U18 Fiba Americas tournament.

              ISV Ivan Aska named MVP.
