EDIT: Sorry this was finalized a while ago, sorry for the repost. Regardless, it seems like a fairly strong roster. RJ Barrett is a bit of a mini-Wiggins in Canada. Not that hyped by really young (I think only 15) and a very advanced game. Great genetics too as his Dad rowan Barrett was one of the all-time greats out of Canada. Very good scorer. We have been hearing allot of Simi Shittu as well for the last year. Djuricic is supposed to be good too - #2 in his Canadian class (2018) after Shittu.

Canada beat Venezuela 84-55 in the tournament opener, as expected.

Best basketball was displayed by Canadians in Q1 and 3, when they dominated the game with quick and efficient play. In Q4, starters were replaced and the quality of the game suffered.
On top, Barrett Jr, Shittu, Djuricic (for his long range shooting) and Brazdeikis.

Barrett Jr. and Shittu are supposedly Canada's best prospects of this age group since Andrew Wiggins. Good to see them preform well.

Djuricic I know less about but heard he is very good too - nice to see him have an excellent game.

There was no doubt on USA-Puerto Rico outcome, for the record it ended 105-54, guess who won.

All USA boys scored, in fact they showed a good team effort, although with a bit too many mistakes and OR left to undersized but dynamic Puerto Rico players.

Among the winners, I personally liked high scorer Markus Howard (the only one with a good long range shooting), Tre Jones and Gary Trent jr on backcourt. Jordan Brown (amazing his half-spin dunk in Q4), Jalen Hill, Kevin Knox II and Wendell Carter Jr the best from frontcourt. And yes, after a timid start, supergiant Vanover displayed good playing technique, with a fine hook shot towards the end.

For Puerto Rico, Ayala and Rial the most convincing.

The surprise came from the match Brazil-Dominican Republic, that Caribbean team won in a game marred by TOs. Just watched the 1st half, and it was much less entertaining than previous games. Hero of the game Alanzo Frink (DOM), who plays in the States, was top performer with a double-double. Situation in Group A is uncertain as regards the second place.

Argentina started the tournament well, and is now tied at the top of Group B with Canada.

USA rolled over Dominican Republic 115-51 (68-22 at HT). Sharpshooter Markus Howard (20 pts, 6/10 FG3) was surpassed today by Gary Trent Jr with 25 pts (and 7/12 threes). Another good US-team effort, as all players got on the scoreboard. Strangely, USA boys shot better from the long range than under the basket. Crowd cheered the final dunk by "little" Jaylen Nowell. On the negative side, still too many TOs.

Anderson Mirambeaux had a fine game for the DOM.

Argentina, Canada and USA already to semifinals. Brazil with no chances anymore, last spot will be contended tonight between DOM and PUR.

Beating Puerto Rico 71-66, Dominican Republic qualifies for the semifinals and the 2016 U17 WC (first time I guess).

The final will be Canada-USA, as expected.
Canadian boys displayed tournament's finest defense yesterday vs Dominican Republic and their starting five Barrett, Shittu, Nembhard, Kirkwood and Djuricic played really well, for what I could see in the first half. DOM played without their injured center Mirambeaux (but had anyway no chance to win) and Frink was again their best scorer.
Canada starters are for sure at USA same level and can stay well in the game, the only difference being imo USA's depth (once again all players scored yesterday) and among the bigs, Shittu alone is high-level.
Should be an exciting final anyway, we'll see.
