    Default Spar cup 07

    quarterfinals:
Alpos Šentjur - Elektra Esotech (A)
    Nova Gorica- Union Olimpija (B)
    Helios - Geoplin Slovan (C)
    Krka - Loka kava (D)

    semifinals:
    A-B
    C-D

Olimpija got 2 new players and an easy schedule, so we can be a bit more optimistic when it comes to cup competition.

I don't think Alpos, Elektra, Gorica or Loka could do anything significant in this competition, while Laško was already, surprisingly eliminated by Krka.

I'd wish for Slovan upsetting Helios, but they are playing on their home court, so that's not likely... Helios and Olimpija are the big favorites for the final game.

Only one game in quarters? How the home team is picked then?

We have a final 8 tournament system, so every match is knock out match.

The whole tournament is played in Domžale (Helios's town)... the federation decides the hosting town.
eventhough I know the system was different few years ago, when the team I was training for competed in the cup... things change on annuall basis here.

I guess the federation wanted to look up to spanish and italian final8 cup tournaments. At least they've kept elimination stages from the lowest to the highest league where there are home and away games...

Matiz! Have you slept a whole year off? Last season The Cup tournament was played in Domžale. This season it is played in Ljubljana at Slovan (Ferbruary 8th-11th).

I could say that for the last year and a half I've been paying attention to basketball 70-80% less than I used to... so sleeping the whole year off, would actually be a suitable expression

writing all of this out of my head, mistakes happen

    My personal advice:
I try to check all facts of which I intend to write. Google makes wonders. I didn't jump on you without confirming my idea in the KZS site first.

well, thanks for the advice, but i rarely check things at google and i don't think i'd do it in the future, sometimes things just fly by without realising it.

that's why I've got you and Prophet to correct me from time to time...

    Olimpija - Alpos
Krušič, Hunt and Koštomaj are the players to be watched today.
Hunt is 3rd in league in scoring (19.7) 1st in passing (5.3)
Krušič 12th in rebounding (6.2) eventhough he plays only 16 minutes per game
    Koštomaj 17th in scoring (15.3) 5th in assists (2.8)
Krušič and Koštomaj should (together with Slovan trio) become one of the leaders of U20 team and could develope into nice players within few years, while I think Hunt will get to play at adriatic league level next year.

    Helios - Krka
Krka managed with some surprises this year, but overall Helios is too strong and too deep. As Široki's coach sad the team with best set system in this years adriatic league

As always.. big and very strong. Krušič definitively has great body for center. His body stracture is stronger than Vidmar's. He was solid in offense, got few offensive rebounds and scored some easy baskets. That was about it. He isn't yet an experianced player and that's why he did many stupid fauls in defense/offense. He needs to work on some basic things like ballhandling, his shoot and center (offensive/defensive) technique. Maybe if he'll work hard he'll develope in good post player in few seasons. He reminds me a bit on Partizan's Nikola Peković.

Helios Domžale is new Cup Spar Champion!

    Helios Domžale : Union Olimpija 77:70 (59:50, 44:29, 26:19)

    Helios Domžale: Dončič 12 (1:2), Janža 2, Zalokar 3 (1:2), Troha 16 (5:6), Krejič 3 (1:2), Pavič 14 (4:4), Zagorc 3, Žerak 2, Močnik 8 (3:4), Laškevič 14 (4:5).

    Union Olimpija: Jurak 7 (1:2), Rizvič 5 (1:6), Rannikko 24 (4:4), Markoišvili 21 (2:4), Jurkovič 3, D. Lorbek 10 (3:3).

Terrible performance by Union Olimpija's inside players. Whole team played like crap except Markoishvili and Rannikko. Helios had more players on fire especially in first half. Congrats to Helios.

Olimpija is always considered as a future cup and championship winner abroad, our league had a big downfall compared to 5 years ago, but still it would be sad if Olimpija in it's worst edition in the decade (probably 2 decade's, but I'm no expert on 86-91 period, so I'll be quiet ) would easily won the cup and championship without any team resisting.
Helios is playing some great team basketball lately. Guys like Žerak and Lashkevich improved their level a lot in the past few years. so, congrats Helios, well deserved.

It is a wake up call... for players, coach and management... but especially players. It kind of worries me, considering that Olimpija always had kind of downfall towards the end of the season, well mostly all teams did, Krka and Laško included, but not as bad as in Olimpija where some players considered appearing at the game would itself mean they won the championship... I hope the triumvirat listed above won't need another wake up call and that won't happen.
