  • how many world championships has won serbia, serbia and montenegro, yugoslavia?

at fiba site when you look at the profil of the serbia you see zero titles but wikipeidia says that is the successor of the serbia and montenegro and so has 2 world champions.what do you know about that,or what do you believe?

    As it says on wikipedia
It was known as the Yugoslavia national basketball team until April 1992 and the FR Yugoslavia / Serbia and Montenegro national basketball team until June 2006. When Serbia became independent, it became the successor state to the Serbia and Montenegro and, therefore, the results of previous state FR Yugoslavia / Serbia and Montenegro rightfully belong to it.
Yugoslavia was destroyed in 1992. so after 1992. it wasnt "that" Yugoslavia anymore(With Croatia,Slovenia,Bosnia and Macedonia) it was only Serbia and Montenegro but Serbia and Montenegro arent successor of "that" Yugoslavia the one before 1992. so these results do not belong to Serbia, all players who has played and won these medals were actually and mostly Serbs, actually Serbia have won 2x WC and 1x silver on olympic games and 3x Eurobasket

The same is for Eurobasket 2017, Serbia is shown with zero titles. But what is the truth?

          Here are some facts:

          1. Socialistic Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1945-1991) - no successors, this country stopped to exist for Fiba in 1991.

          2. Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, founded 1992 with Serbia&Montenegro unity. This country won 3 gold on european (1995,1997,2001) and 2 gold on world championships (1998, 2002). Montenegro exit this unity in 2006, and country continues to exist just with name Serbia.

          3. Fiba treated Montenegro as a new country starting from qualifications for national competitions, and Serbia as succesor of former FR Yugoslavia team with replacing it's spot.
          http://www.fiba.basketball/pages/eng...p?newsID=16063

CONCLUSION: Treated by Fiba as legal successor of FR Yugoslavia (but not SFR Yugoslavia) from 1992, Serbia has won 3 european championships, and 2 world championships. Why it isn't shown on Fiba website in part of statistics there are only two possible reasons:

          1) Ignorance

          2) Politics

Who care what Fiba recognizes .In state with Croatia,Motenegro,Bosnia and Herzegovina,Slovenia,we won 3 World Championship ,with Montegro 2 WC.How Russia is hereditary of Soviet Union but Serbia isnt of Yugoslavia .Even I accept to discuss about 3 in complete Yugoslavia,we won 2 WC with Montenegro ,and this also isnt counted, really.

Officially, FIBA recognise everything after 1992 and International Olympic Committee recognise every medal that Yugoslavia won as Serbian now, in every sport.

                So, officialy it is:

                Gold medals

                Olympic Games 1980

                World Cup 1998 and 2002

                Eurobasket 1995, 1997 and 2001

                Silver medals

                Olympic Games 1968, 1976, 1988, 1996 and 2016

                World Cup 2014

                Eurobasket 2009 and 2017

                Bronze medals

                Olympic Games 1984

Serbia has won the FIBA Basketball World Cup once, in 1998, as Yugoslavia. Serbia and Montenegro participated as a joint team in 2002, and Yugoslavia won twice in 1970 and 1978. The rich basketball heritage of these nations continues to shine on the world stage.
