  • 1955-65 : Baby Boom years in Basketball

The period (1955-65) has brought into this world a cohort of players who in basketball context has the most historical impact, has the most achievements and has the most widespread popularity than any group of players who were born in a 10 year span :

Among NBA greats who were born in this period are :

Michael Jordan (1963), Larry Bird(1956), Magic Johnson (1959), Charles Barkley (1963), Karl Malone (1963), Moses Malone (1955), Hakeem Olajuwon (1963), David Robinson (1965), Scottie Pippen(1965), John Stockton (1962), Patrick Ewing (1962), Clyde Drexler (1962), Isiah Thomas (1961), Kevin McHale (1957), James Worthy (1961), Dominique Wilkins (1960), Reggie Miller (1965), Bernard King (1956), Joe Dumars (1963), Adrian Dantley (1955) and Dennis Rodman (1961).

Likewise International players who were born in the same period are :

The late Drazen Petrovic (1964), Arvydas Sabonis (1964), Oscar Schmidt (1958), Nikos Galis (1957), Juan Antonio San Epifanio (1959), Sarunas Marciulionis (1964), Andrew Gaze (1965), Antonello Riva (1962), Panagiotis Giannakis (1959), Aleksandre Volkov (1964) and late Fernando Martin (1962).

In fact it's an unsurpassed "cluster" of super-stars, though I'm convinced that widespread of communication media starting from the 1980s also played a role in terms of popularity and worldwide impact.

Just digging in the previous decade (1944-54) there are names such as Lew Alcindor aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1947), Julius Erving (1950), George Gervin (1952), David Thompson (1954), Bill Walton (1952), Nate Archibald (1950), Bob McAdoo (1952), Bob Lanier (1948), Spencer Haywood (1949), Elvin Hayes (1945) and several others who imo could have reached a higher stardom status had they played some years later.
