Korea University's Kim Ji-Hu and Kang Sang-Jae are bracing for bigger roles in spring. Lee Seung-Hyun was proclaimed team captain. They will need to as Yonsei is just as strong with their respective player development.

26th Daejanji Challenge Cup draw was held and I have to say that Group C is the Group of Death where powerhouses Korea University, Yonsei University, Dankook and Konkuk comprise it. Group A, I can see Hanyang winning it while B is a toss up between Dongguk University and Sungkyunkwan.

All eyes on the clash of KU and Yonsei.

Korea University beating Yonsei University 58-52 after surviving a 4th quarter comeback by Yonsei. Lee Seung-Hyun slightly cooled off after a good start but it is the defense of Lee Jong-Hyun that allowed KU the first half momentum. Kim Ji-Hu got his clutch trey in the 4th and that was the dagger. As for Yonsei, they missed easy shots, very uncharacteristic for Choi Joon-Young, Hur Hoon and Hur Ung.

        Lee Seung-Hyun 21 points, 13 rebounds.

Korea University is back in Korea after three weeks in the United States where they had undergone training as well as matches against one or two ABA teams consisting of semi-pros and two reported local NCAA D2 teams. They also trained at the Impact Basketball Camp in Las Vegas and got a first hand taste on how NBA players train. Guards and bigmen like Lee Jong-Hyun and Lee Seung-Hyun got some skills training apt for their positions.

              2014 MBC Invitational

Group A: Kyunghee University, Chung-Ang University, Chosun University, Dankook
Group B: Yonsei, Sungkyunkwan University, Konkuk University, Myongji
Group C: Korea University, Sang Myung, Dongguk University, Hanyang University

Group B, Yonsei will top it and same with Group C. Kyung-Hee is rebuilding so I expect Chung-Ang to be better slightly.

The new look Kyung Hee university overwhelmed Central University in the game. Result was a 98-72 demolition where the middle of the second quarter, it was all over.

Woo Di-Long had a commanding double double of 28 points and 12 rebounds. But he got a lot of help from Han Hee-Won, Choi Chang-Jin and Han Seong-Won. For CU, Park Cheol-Ho scored most of his points during garbage time.

In a rout of Hanyang University, Korea University's Kang Sang-Jae had 18 points in 23 minutes as Kang also drained two three pointers and had 9 rebounds. He played like Dirk Nowitzki in that game, dribble up, fade and swish.

Also, Yonsei's Ahn Young-Jun finished with 19 points in another game by shooting 100%. He looked like Cho Sung-Min in this one.

Korea University beats Yonsei in the MBC 78-70. KU leaned on Lee Jong-Hyun and Lee Seung-Hyun as both combined for 42 points and 23 rebounds that did the most damage. KU played a patient game of resetting the offense after a successful second possession. As for Yonsei, Hur Ho-Ung got out of his slump from last season and finished with 27 points. I felt that Yonsei should have better spacing and force an uptempo game. That is how they beat KU last year where they had a lot of open threes. Expected more from Choi Joon-Young, Hur Hoon, Cheon Ki-Bum and Ahn Young-Jun.

Kyung Hee routs Konkuk 92-50 as Woo Di-Long hauled a double double of 13 points and 17 rebounds. Han Hee-Won, now the team's chief gunner had 27 points, 13 in the fourth quarter. What was impressive about this game was Kyung-Hee's defense where Choi Bo-Young stated that what they lack in firepower will be compensated with defense. Woo had 5 blocks for this game. Konkuk was limited to 30% shooting and could not score more than 15 in a quarter.

Korea University survives a challenge by Kyung-Hee 86-85 thanks to the game winner by Lee Seung-Hyun. Lee has been emerging as the go to guy for KU and it makes clear that his well rounded offense is now ready for the next level. For this game, Kyung-Hee showed that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Kyung-Hee's approach was spacing and shooting where the defense of Lee Jong-Hyun and Lee Seung-Hyun can't bother them and they took a lot of perimeter shots, challenging KU's 1-2-2 zone. Good thing that the likes of Han Hee-Won was converting from there and the Kyung-Hee had a rebounding advantage thanks to those 50-50 possessions that smaller but more mobile bigmen like Woo Di-Long and Bae Ji-Yong had been amassing. KU's Lee Jong-Hyun and Lee Seung-Hyun reached double rebounding averages but Kyung-Hee was rebounding as a team very well.

On defense, Kyung-Hee was using an aggressive zone, often pressing KU at the half-court and double teaming Lee Jong-Hyun. They did challenge Lee Seung-Hyun to shoot those jumpers instead of allowing Lee to post up or attack face up. Good thing, Lee got those shots to fall. Also, Kim Ji-Hoo was clutch for KU in the third.

Lee Seung-Hyun already being projected as the first overall pick for the 2014 KBL Draft. Many believe that he will enter. When that happens, it is Lee Jong-Hyun's team now.

Korea University beating Kyung-Hee University yesterday 78-60. KU's Lee Jong-Hyun with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks as the motion offense kept getting easy baskets against Kyung-Hee's lack of size. Moon Seong-Gon was very active on both ends. Han Hee-Won was playing well for Kyung-Hee but not his teammates who struggled against the man to man pressure by KU.

Lee Jong-Hyun's slam and block party against Kyung-Hee. He has improved his offensive reading and the corresponding ball movement under the flex offense that KU runs.

Unlike his rookie year where there were a lot of instances where he will catch the ball and be in the awkward position to think and react on what to do next.

Great game by Chung-Ang's Park Cheol-Ho 17 points and 21 rebounds against Sang Myung University. Both team had their struggles in offense but in the 4th, Park scored 12 of his 17 output.
