  • Lebanese National Team 2015 - Road to Rio de Janeiro 2016

We need a new federation as soon as possible, a federation that is capable of solving all the problems within the next few months.
    - New Federation
    - Do all the steps required to lift the FIBA ban
    - Build a professional league
    - A Plan for all the National Teams (Senior, Women, Youth)

    ---------------------

I know its still early, but probably these players will be the core of the team:
Rodrigue, Wael, Amir, Ahmad, Bawji and Haidar.

We need to draw a plan that includes nationalizing a young center, hopefully the ban be lifted as soon as possible and the preparations will start from Summer 2014 by competing in FIBA Asia Cup.

The Dream of winning Asia Championship (2015) and playing in the Olympic games (2016).

We'll miss fadi for sure, but there's some young talents like Ahmad Ibrahim and Amir Soaud with some experience within the next few years, they can lead us to compete in Asia again and qualify to World Cup!

I agree. Plus we have many other great future prospects as well. Ali Haidar & Wael Arakji are two great players who they still have alot to add to their game.
I think Ghaleb, Sabah, Matt, Omar El Turk & Rony are done for the NT. As for Daniel he's been very consistent with his injuries..not sure though. And who knows...we might discover new talented players in this two years.

Agree about Omar, Sabah, Rony, Galeb, Matt etc... I just mentioned the top players from last season to give a general idea... We need to wait for next season to see if Daniel can be good enough after his long-term injury, he's still young (26) and would be very helpful maybe as a backup C.
As you said, within the next 2 years new talents should be discovered...
Rodrigue, Wael, Amir, Ahmad, Bawji, Haidar... would make a great NT with a Nationalized young Center!

Yeah we're going to drop really bad in the rankings because of this mess we're into and the amount of points you mentioned that we will lose are absolutely correct! Qualifying to the 2016 Olympics will make up for it big time but right now let's just solve our issues first and then we'll see since it's too early to talk about this.

Lebanon's point system explained for those who want to see how it works:

The results for Lebanon during the FIBA cycle ranking years are as follows:
                    Note:
Weight of Asian Championship = 0.3
Weight of World Championship = 5
(Weight of Olympics is also 5 but Lebanon never qualified to Olympics)

                    Lebanon:
                    1) 2nd place in 2005 Asian Championship = 40 x 0.3 = 12 points
                    2) 18th place in 2006 WC (but got same amount of points as 17th place since they were tied with the same win/loss record) = 2 x 5 = 10 points
                    3) 2nd place in 2007 Asian Championship = 40 x 0.3 = 12 points
                    4) 4th place in 2009 Asian Championship = 15 x 0.3 = 4.5 points
                    5) 21st place in 2010 WC = 1 x 5 = 5 points
                    6) 6th place in 2011 Asian Championship = 13 x 0.3 = 3.9 points

                    Total Points = 12+10+12+4.5+5+3.9 = 47.4 points

Yeah, the only way we can make up to this is by winning Asia Championship 2015 (we'll get 3 pts "15-12") and then at least 35 points after participating in the Olympic games!

                      We might still be 3rd in Asia this year (2013);
if Jordan doesn't get a position better than 4th (35 or less pts).
                      & Korea doesn't get a position better than 2nd (33.6 pr less).

Qatar has 22.1 pts (winning the tournament will only give them (15-9 = 6pts). Total: 28.1 pts
Taiwan (winning the tournament will give them 15-3 = 12pts). Total: 25.4pts.
Philippines (winning the tournament will give them 15-0= 15pts). Total = 25.8 pts
                      etc..

Lebanon will most probably stay 3rd in Asia (Fiba ranking) in 2013, but we might lose a lot of positions "world ranking" after World Cup 2014... depending on which Asian teams qualify, Most probably we'll be 4th in Asia (fiba ranking) in 2014 behind the 3 teams qualifying to the World Cup (Iran, China and X)

I feel sorry for Lebanon (even though I still don't know what happened). This must feel like an unbelievable nightmare. So the ban will be lifted in 2014?

Yeah right now these are the worst days of Lebanese basketball ever... To make it short politics and personal interest led the league to be cancelled and then to FIBA banning Lebanon.
There is no specific time frame... If we abide by what FIBA tells us the ban will be lifted.

Here is a copy of FIBA's ban if you would like to read it:
