Thanks for the correction Soliman... I knew he was 2.18 but I wrote 2.11 by mistake... I used to follow his game since he was playing with Rice alongside the Lebanese Ahmad Ibrahim and the Iranian Arsalan Kazemi...

I also completely forgot about Abdel Nader... He's truly a young talented player as well..

True... I don't see any guards from Egypt playing abroad.

I think Nigeria too, has a chance to be one of the best in Africa due to them being sort of pioneers in either sending players to the NCAA or expat families in the United States. A board meeting from Nigeria's federation instilled Ayo Bakare as the technical director for long term basketball growth and the latter identified Nigerians in the NCAA as potential reinforcements for the team. I think Egypt's federation can do the same in keeping track of their player's development.
        You're welcome anytime
Yeah Nigeria always has talented players but they're not being able to assemble their best players together... They did try to do so for the Olympics at least.

There is a German basketball player of an Egyptian descent named Jusuf ElDomiaty(187 cm -G) playing for a BBL team named Eisbaren Bremerhaven.
and here is his Wikipedia page:

and an interview with him state the at he has an Egyptian father and a Bosnian mother:
Aktuelle Nachrichten und Informationen aus Braunschweig, der Region und Niedersachsen sowie aus Politik, Wirtschaft, Sport, Kultur, Boulevard und Ratgeber.

            and his page on eurobasket.com:

He is a very good player and his stats in BBL are good that Egyptian national basketball team can benifit from him
So I want to know if anyone could contact Captain Amr Abo Elkheir our head coach and introduce this player to him.
There is the contact information of his team(Eisbaren Bremerhaven) to send him an official invitation to national team preparation:

There is lack of talented guards of solid stats in Egypt.

Men’s Basketball Adds to 2014-15 Class with Signing of Ihab Amin
CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi basketball team has added another player for the 2014-15 season, signing Ihab (Ehab) Amin (Alexandria, Egypt/St. John's Northwestern Military Academy) to a National Letter of Intent. Amin is a 6-foot-3 point guard who has played with the Egyptian National Team.

"Ihab is a very mature player for an incoming freshman," head coach Willis Wilson said. "His international experience is something that should ease his transition into college basketball. He can run the point and he is also a pretty strong shooter. He will give us some additional depth at the guard position this year, and down the line we will look to him to take over at the point."

The bulk of Amin's experience has come on the international level, making a name for himself at the 2012 FIBA Under-17 World Championship. He scored 15.7 points, grabbed 5.5 rebounds, dished out 2.5 assists and garnered 2.5 steals in seven games at the event. He was fifth in scoring at the Championship and second in assists.

Amin spent the past year at St. John's Northwestern, just outside of Milwaukee, Wis. The school is a postgraduate institution that plays in the National Prep School Invitational annually. The point guard was hampered by an injury during the year, though, limiting his playing time.

Amin joins Chris Tawiah, who signed earlier this week, and Joe Kilgore, who signed in the early signing period in November. Tawiah is a 6-foot-9 center originally from England who most recently attended Frank Phillips College. Kilgore is an athletic, 6-foot-5 combo guard out of Spring Dekaney High School, just outside of Houston.

A&M-Corpus Christi was the third-most improved team in the nation in 2013-14, posting 18 wins, a 12-win improvement from the 2012-13 campaign. The Islanders went 14-4 in conference play, finishing second behind only undefeated Stephen F. Austin in the Southland standings. Wilson was also honored with the Ben Jobe Award as the top minority coach in Division I.

                Good Luck for Ihab Amin

                  Khalid and Lemo,
The info you have provided is very helpful for me as I am new to Egyptian Basketball. However I've now been tasked to help the team and federation out. I have 2 questions
One is , I know they placed 2nd in Afrobasket , but what is the objective expectation for the World cup. Who would be favored Iran or Egypt?
Second question. is a cultural question, given that they're sending players to the US, now, is holding camp in say Las Vegas for say the girls and boys junior team, acceptable ? Sorry that might sound like a naive question and forgive me for my ignorance. But to advise me if possbile

And lastly is English generally understood by the coaches and players?

Since this will be the first time Egypt has qualified to the World Cup in a long time (last time was 20 years ago in 1994) this will be a new experience for this young and upcoming team.
The Egyptian NT has a couple of veterans with the likes of Wael Badr and Sherif Genneidy but the rest of the team will be made from players whose ages will be ranging from 19-27 so they're quite young and don't have as much experience as the Iranian NT who has been participating in World Cups and Olympics since 2008.

I think the Egyptian teams' only realistic chance of winning a game will be against the Iranian NT and even this game will be very tough for them...

I honestly don't see them having any chance against the much tougher remaining opponents in their group (Spain, Serbia, France and Brazil)

I don't believe holding a camp in Vegas would be a problem for the boys junior team... Maybe for the girls and if they're wearing veils (hijab) it might be quite awkward and difficult for them considering how Vegas is as a city that is known for it's gambling, strip clubs, etc...

But i'm sure that they can still find a hotel or location (maybe not located on the strip) where it's more quiet and reserved...

English is the second language that is common and used in Egypt so I don't see it being a problem for them...

by the way this article below was posted on Afrobasket not a long while ago and I think it's an interesting read:

How Egypt can get past Iran? - May 5, 2014

                    POSTED BY:
                    MOHAMED RAMADAN

Before we start analyzing the Iranian team we must first listen to former Jordan coach Tab Baldwin who had surprisingly defeated Iran in the quarter finals of 2011 Asian championship 88-84.

Baldwin mentioned by word in the press conference after the game "we wanted Hamed Haddadi (best center & player in Asia) to score, we didn't want anyone else to score. He got his 27 points, but we limited what the other guys got."

He continued "Iran and China are beatable." This was before losing to China in their home land by a single point in the Final.

Two years later at the same tournament the Iranian team which didn't change much in their squad crushed Jordan (without Tab Baldwin) 94 - 50 which is nearly the result between Egypt and Iran 54 - 90 during 2013 William Jones cup.

The truth is that Iran has chances this year to qualify to the second round if they kept healthy. During 2013 Asian Championship they cruised past any of their opponents by at least double digits.

Addition of 2013 NBA draft pick forward Arsalan Kazemi to the roster which played in the Asian championship will give this team a major boost in the paint specially with his excellent rebounding skills, he's a good scorer, but a very poor free throw shooter. He used to play at Rice university together with Egyptian center Omar Oraby.

Hamed Haddadi who deserves to be the best player in Asia, played several years in the NBA without any influential presence. After he had been waived by the Phoenix Suns he joined Sichwan BW in China and averaged in 36 min/game only 14 points . Haddadi while playing heavy minutes can't finish games with the same form which is one of the reasons why he's out of NBA.

How "Tab Baldwin's" strategy would succeed against Asian champions?

Let us start first with the speedy PG Mahdi Kamrani who is the main feeder for Haddadi, averaged 6.6 assists in 2013 Asian championship and the way he runs the fast break is really impressive. Any turn over against Kamrani would really cost. It won't be easy for Egyptian PG Wael Badr to guard him, His motor would make Wael exhausted and tired. Kamrani who lacks size needs a specialist perimeter defender on him, may be some one like Mohamed El Leithy or Amr El Gendy with good size could get this task and at the same time allows Wael to have more energy while leading the offense. Shutting down Kamrani is the major factor in limiting the Iranian offense.

On the wing no body in Iran is better than Samad Nikkhah Bahrami who's excellent performance in Beijing Olympic games forced a couple of French teams to sign him. He's a smart player that passes the ball well, averaged 4.1 assists in Chinese league this season, knows how to get to the free throw line and mainly penetrates from the wing to the paint either pass to Haddadi or score.

The other 3 players Iran relies on are SG Hamed Afagh who is Iran's best shooter from the 3PT line but still doesn't have too many other weapons except his jump shot, PF Oshin Sahakian whose average game completes Haddadi performance in the paint, & back up 7'0 center Asghar Kardoust.

The difference between the Egyptian and Jordanian teams is that the last shoots the ball better while the pharaohs scores better from the paint. That is why Egypt needs a big mid range game from Ibrahim El Gammal, Sherif Genneidy, Rami Ibrahim, Wael Badr, and exists also Jusuf El Domiaty who is a 3 point specialist in German Bundesliga top division club Bremerhaven who still waits a call from coach Amr Abu El Kheir.

It will be better not to start this game with team star PF Assem Marei, allowing him to join it at the end of the first quarter when Haddadi goes to the bench will give him much easier opportunities to score, get the confidence, & avoid early foul trouble at the beginning of the game.

How to defend Haddadi with current Egyptian roster?

Egypt doesn't have on its squad any 7 footers except Anas Osama who has just signed with university of Louisville (according to ESPN a top 10 in America). He has lenght, good shot blocker, & can score but neither his experience nor strength (only 93 kg) would allow him to defend Haddadi one on one.
University of Bakersfield 6'9 center Aly Ahmed is the most player with strength on the team (122 Kg).

Throwing Aly Ahmed with his very solid frame to play on Haddadi in the center position while Anas Osama plays as PF will allow Anas more to use his length shot blocking abilities when they are double teaming the Iranian giant; Aly will wrestle with Haddadi under the paint behind him will be Anas trying either to block him or making it tougher for him to score.

This tandem is nearly used by NBA team OKC they play Serge Ibaka as PF while he can also be a center together with Kendrick Perkins who never had any attractive stats in box scores and considered as one of the most worst contracts in the NBA. The main thing Perkins is doing is wrestling with centers or scoring PFs in the paint which allows better opportunities for Ibaka to block shots. Immediately after the addition of Perkins Ibaka turned to be the best shot blocker in the NBA and OKC as one of the best paint defending teams in this league.

The other team Egypt can have some chances against is Brazil which we will start to analyze after they announce their preliminary world cup roster.

By the way, I'm sending a "Lithuanian team" to the Alexandria Egypt tournament June 21 to 26 . Is anyone watching this tournament, Egypt will be in it.

I have another question, are Eyptian national team games , broadcast locally in Egypt. Would they broadcast a game like the Philippines vs Egypt locally in Egypt? will people watch ? Anyone here knows if there is an Egyptian Community in Spain? how big is it, and will they come to their games ?

Oh yes, There is a tournament which will be held in Alexandria on occasion of ittihad Alexandria`s ( the most popular basketball team in Egypt) Millennium celebration activities .
This tournament will contain Egypt , Ivory coast ,Tunisia, Cameroon,UAE as well as the Ittihad Alexandria and Saudi Arabian Al-Iitihad teams.
I`d like to know which ( Lithuanian team) will join?. Is it Šiauliai ? ( which Egypt have competed with it in 2013 ) or another team?
I think this tournament will be broadcasted locally but I am not sure about that.
Basketball is not so popular in Egypt_I admit_ as soccer or handball but there are many basketball fans especially in Alexandria.
I think there will be a good amount of fans will accompany the NT in its tour to Spain.

MANKATO (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Egypt forward Assem Marei played all of this past season without knowing the cause of pain in his knee, until earlier this month when he was advised to undergo a surgery.

The 21-year-old led Minnesota State University in scoring with 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, while also registering a team-high 53 blocks and 10 double-double performances in 2013-14.

However, when he prepared to join his national team, which is holding a training cam in Alexandria, Egypt, Marei had to go to the operating theatre.

The 2.07m player is currently in the USA for a rehabilitation period, while keeping busy on improving his game ahead of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, as his country returns to the world stage for the first time since 1994.

As a result of the surgery, Marei is set to miss a friendly tournament that Egypt will host and in which it will face Tunisia, Kuwait and a Lithuania B team in June. He might also miss the William Jones Cup in Taipei in July.

"Doctors said (after the operation) I will be better," he explained to FIBA.com.

"They are making sure I come back better," he said.

Marei played a key role for an underrated Egypt team that lost its first three games in the Group Phase of AfroBasket 2013, before bouncing back in the next round and stun the likes of Tunisia and Senegal, before losing to Angola in the Final.

At the time, Marei and his army were so determined to succeed, that he did not care much about his initial knee pain.

Egypt head coach Amr Aboul Kheir says he hopes to count with Marei's services by late July before they travel to Madrid for the last stage of their World Cup preparations.

A number of other players are are yet to join the team's preparations for various reasons.

Omar Tarek Oraby, a seven-footer who has played in Egypt's youth national teams, might be an option for Aboul Kheir, but for now he is trying his luck in being selected in next month's NBA draft.

There is good news for Egypt is as American-born Omar Samhan - whose parents are originally from the North African country - had his passport request approved and could represent the country in Spain, although he is yet to report to national the team.

Samhan helped local club Sporting Alexandria win the national cup last month, while both Ahmed Baraka and Sheriff Abdalla who helped Egypt finish AfroBasket runners-up last summer, won the national league with Cairo-based club Gezira.

Baraka is also recovering from an injury.

At the World Cup, Egypt will play in Granada's Group A along with hosts Spain, EuroBasket 2013 champions France, European powerhouse Serbia, Asian champions Iran and Brazil.
