Long time NBA coach Larry Brown will be a basketball consultant for the women's national team. Brown made pointers about the fundamental aspects of the national team, in which he gave the women's team a passing grade.

With the men failing at their World Cup qualifiers, fans on twitter are actually looking forward to the women's team. This team is a contender.

It's Larry's brother Herb Brown, also a former NBA coach. Their men's team has never hired a famous coach I believe? Clearly all the money went to the women's program.

As for the Asian women's champships, top 3 teams qualify to the Worlds, and there are basically only 4 teams. But Japan has a good chance winning this, they beat China by 20+ this summer and Korea by 20+ last summer, looking very formidable.

OT: I don't think Japanese (or Chinese) media know this, but Yuko Oga just signed a deal with defending champion Shanxi of the Chinese WCBA next season, she'll team up with Maya Moore.

              Thanks for the correction.

I believe it too that the Women's team was given a much more significant budget. Women's team are practically assured of a trip to the World Cup alongside trips abroad conducted and lined up for preparation. While the men's team had just the Jones Cup and invited a Philippine team over.

Thanks for the news on Oga, I was wondering where she was going when she stated earlier this year that when her contract expires after the WJBL season, she would play overseas.

Tokyo wins the 2020 Olympic bid. Atleast the women's team will be competitive and deserves a direct qualification due to the recent strings of world championship appearance. Plus the women's youth movement has been progressing far better than the men's side.

Very impressed with Ramu Tokashiki, plays actual defense and not passive. Her energy is something that Hayabusa needs.

Last night, Michiko Miyamoto's sniping prowess was on full display against Chinese Taipei.

Congratulations to Japan. The future is bright for the team especially when the Mawuli sisters mature for the 2020 Olympics. For now, they are bound for Turkey next year.

Japan rises in rank, up one notch to #17 in the world after last month's conquest.

Mamiya and Tokashiki are hailed as the next in line.

Former U16 standout Evelyn Mawuli said after leading Oka Gakuen to the All Japan Highschool Championship that she would like to get a chance to try out for next year's 2014 World Cup and someday get the chance to play for the 2020 Olympics.

Mawuli will turn pro this year to join Aishin in the WNBL where she gets a chance to really elevate her game.

Japan grouped with Brazil, Spain and Czech Republic. China and South Korea are also in a competitive group. Player pool consisting of 30 players as reported will be announced in early April.
