This race thing to me is such a load of bull crap, genetic freaks exist in all races. It’s a matter of finding them and developing them. Not all Africans are tall and athletic, and not all middle easterners are big and strong. SEA is pretty diverse when it comes to genetics with a pop. of around 600+ million people there is going to be mutations that occur.
You are correct there bro. But there is a thing called "statistics". How many male persons who are at least 6-foot-5 in height in every 1000 people in Senegal? Compare that to how many 6-foot-5 people in every 1000 Pinoys.

Hope you understand where I'm coming from.

    • we must also consider that there are diminishing returns to height in basketball. Almost all the best centers all-time stand between 203 and 213 cm (6'8 to 7'0); and successful players beyond these heights are kinda uncommon. Even the great Yugo coach Duda Ivkovic said that his ideal 5 on the floor would be composed of 5 players all standing 6'7 (200 cm). Height is definitely a factor but only to a certain extent... And a Gilas team composed of all players above 6 ft is very achievable

        Of course it is.

Its also like good looks. It is a factor but only to a certain extent. Gwapo nga yung isang tao, e asal hayop naman at subrang bobo pa, so his face value won't be that high.

        • 1.Length
          2.Athelticim
          3.Skill

Are all key factors in making a quality basketball player the thing is 1. Length - Cannot be taught 2. Athelicisim - is limited in devoping as it is in grain 3.,Skill - can be developed - but is maxmized in proper environment when exposed to taller competition.

All 3 you can see the Philippine population is at a disadvantage. No one is saying it's absolute and cannot happen for a Filipino in the Philippines but it is statistical fact that the chances of success are lower

So people might be asking should we just quit as this is quite accuratly true? The honest and brutal answer is YES!, but only and especially if we continue to do things the same way! Obviously if we continue in same ways without a drastically different approach then yeah we will statistically expect the same results, of course with possible outliners. It is only but a logical conclusion.

            • I'm imagining a Yao Ming being only 6-foot-7.

He won't even have come close to making it to the NBA with that height. He would have been just a marginal player in the Chinese premier professional league with that height. His name would not have ever rang any bell to any of us basketball enthusiasts.

In short, without height, Yao Ming is close to nothing as far as basketball is concerned. See what difference height can bring.

              • Aaron Craft will retire from pro basketball after this season after passing the entrance exam at the Ohio University...

But the kicker here is that if Yao Ming was 6’7 he wouldn’t have been a Center in the first place. Maybe if he’d been born and developed in the Philippines yes but not in China.

I don't know him, is he Pinoy, but anyway... another example like Tiongson, that there are really other pathways ( that are more prudent for sustrainable financial careers) , if we really care for our ballers life's awarness of this (long term carreer) should be promoted.

sayang, the guy is like the better, quicker, taller version of Iran's Mahdi Kamrani.he would have been one of the best point guards in the PBA and FIBA-Asia if he was considered local.

Aaron Craft was a beast in college. He was one of the most popular college basketball players in the US during his time.

That is crazy! I had no idea he was Filipino!
He would have been the best defensive player in the PBA if he played here after Ohio State... imo.

                          • Hachimura is scary good. His mid range game is on par with KD and Melo when they were rookies. If he gets a consistent 3 point shot he could be a superstar.

                            • Indonesia doing a Gilas 1 blue print

                              http://www.fiba.basketball/asiacup/2...es-says-gozali

With the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers coming up next year and the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 down the road in the near future, the Indonesia national team are ramping up their efforts to improve themselves. They are also taking a leaf out of the book of their Group A opponents, the Philippines, as a part of that development plan.

The Indonesia national team will be one of the 10 competing teams in the Indonesia Basketball League (IBL) this upcoming season. The league will be tipping off on January 10, 2020.

“The idea was similar to [the Gilas Pilipinas program] initiated back in 2008,” said Hasan Gozali, President Commissioner of the IBL. “The difference is that Gilas had longer time to prepare, so they were able to use [younger players].”

Once a month after the start of league play, Indonesia will play the first of their Asia Cup 2021 Qualifier games against Korea at home. Gozali is hoping that the league can serve as a proper training ground for the team to be ready.

Indonesia has been deep in preparation for a while with notable participation in pocket tournaments throughout these past few months. They are also currently undergoing a training camp in Serbia, getting familiar with the playing style and system of newly appointed head coach Rajko Toroman. Playing in the IBL will be another good opportunity to continue building on the progress gained in the latter half of 2019.
