Japan's Rui and Yuta were talented enough to get recruited and played in HS and college in US even before NBA. Generally it's their natural talent that paved way not Japan's bball program.

Had BRP stayed in the US and didn't come to the Philippines to play in the UAAP, he would've been the very first "pinoy" in the NBA. But circumstances would have it that he decided to be with his sick father and forego his nba aspirations. BRP is a complete package of size, talent and naturally gifted that he was then listed highly in mock drafts. But since coming over to the Philippines, his stock plummeted, even winning the uaap MVP couldn't prevent his fall from the draft board.

What program? Japan u19 last placed in worlds, winless beaten by korea. Chose an argentina discard as coach to replace a better local coach. Chose a patsy of a NP. I kinda agree, rui, watanabe and baba are successful because of individual talent and determination, not because of their basketball program

Successful basketball program or not, let's admit that we long for individual success of our players as much as Gilas success at the World stage.
It is still mind boggling why we haven't produced even a single local talent good enough to be highly rated internationally. Wala man lang tayong magaling na manlalaro kahit pa napakadaming batang sa kalye na nakatira kakalaro ng basketball simula pa noong unang panahon.

Here comes once in many generations talent like kai then maybe we have a chance. Players like japeth, kai are rare comination of height and athleticism. We should really put effort in discovering these rare players and develop them.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV
