  • Fiba 3x3 Youth World Championship (Rimini, Sep 9-11)

FIBA is really obsessed with this 3-on-3 thing. They've changed the rules so that 21 points are required to win instead of 33, so it's no longer known as "FIBA 33".

Boys' participating teams: Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Guam, India, Italy, Jordan, Japan, Latvia, Netherlands, Nepal, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Romania, South Africa, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Serbia, Spain, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, USA and Venezuela.

Girls' participating teams: Angola, Australia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, Germany, Greece, Guam, India, Italy, Japan, Netherland, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, USA and Venezuela.

Is there a qualifier or quota of some sort? 36, 24, numbers too perfect to happen by chance.

This is a good thing because youngsters from certain countries don't otherwise get a chance to compete with the best in the world. e.g. Guam, Nepal.

I don't think there were any qualifiers. Originally it was going to be limited to 24 boys teams and 16 girls teams but apparently there was enough demand that they expanded the tournament.

China will be the same 4 girls who won gold last year. With the exception of Jin Jiabao, all the other 3 played in U19 this year. If any is injured, the replacement will come from the U19 team as well.

Then China girls should be a strong contender, as they played already 3on3 together and are all 17-18y.

Australia has announced its women roster:

Both Tessa Lavey (G, 5-7) and Olivia Thompson (G/F, 6-1) are from 1993 and played with 2010 Australian U17 team at the World championship, averaging ca. 2 and 4ppg respectively.

USA Men's roster. Like the women it is a U16 team:

Price-Martin made the U16 NT but missed the FIBA-Americas tournament with an injury. The other three were at the U16 tryouts but not selected.

Nepali team, also mentions the format for the tournament:

From the "U16" USA boys Shaqquan Aaron is just 2014 class and Malik Price-Martin looks the highest in ranking (2013 PF #4 by Rivals).

Dyshawn Pierre presence in the Canadian team should add international experience and is expected to be one of the most interesting athletes performing in the boys tourney.

USA Men's 3X3 Team is quite tall. I am eager to see Shaqquan Aaron's performance.

because the would withdrawn their team again after losing some games like in the universiade.
