I just love how they now modestly accept to list Skornyakov as Russian born in 1985 after this.

Who knows, maybe some time after they will finally do the same at least with Biryulin?

    9/10 «Astana» - «Zalgiris» 86-78 http://www.vtb-league.com/en/game/770.htm

The first victory of «Astana» - and directly over «Zalgiris»!
Debutant of VTB United League Kazakhstan «Astana» sensationally beat one of the favorites of the season - the Lithuanian «Zalgiris».

After defeat from UNICS in Kazan the first ever international match on the home arena should have become a real test for «Astana». «Zalgiris» came to Astana to examine the team. And from the first minutes the Lithuanian team began to lead 14:4 after the accurate throw of Ty Lawson, acting NBA player of «Denver Nuggets». However, after that the game of champions of Lithuania lost its stability and «Astana» on the contrary began to play better and better. It was thanks to accurate three-point shots (12 out of 25!) that the home team managed to stand fast.

And in the final 10-minute «Astana» made a decisive spurt. 8-minute segment the team won 25:11! Particularly the club Legionnaires did their best and especially Rawle Marshall, who scored 10 out of his 16 points in this segment.

So, the victory of «Astana» - 86:78. The most productive in the Kazakh Club became Branco Cvetcovic (18 points), Rawle Marshall and Jerry Johnson (14), and the best player of «Zalgiris» became Paulius Jankunas who scored 19 points for the entire match and failed only once - from a three-point zone (throws from the game - 7 of 7, free throws- 5 of 5).

    - I want to congratulate «Astana» team with their victory - said after the match the head coach of the Lithuanian «Zalgiris» Elias Zouros. – Astana has a very good team and a very good coach Matteo Boniciolli. In the second half the opponent played better than we did, was better concentrated on defense. Here is the result. Before coming to Kazakhstan, we had eight training sessions together. But this is not an excuse. So we will continue to work in order to improve the quality of the game.

    - I am grateful to Elias Zouros and his «Zalgiris» team for a good game - said the head coach of «Astana» Matteo Boniciolli. - Last season I had a similar situation and I know exactly what kind of challenges the coach of «Zalgiris» is facing now. So we had to use our advantage. We won the game in the last quarter. We did not fail with our physical training, which allowed us to keep the game rate throughout all 40 minutes. Today's victory will certainly give confidence to my players as the next match against VEF will be a very serious challenge. And I want to thank our fans, whose support we felt throughout the match.

    16/10 Astana - VEF 73-83 http://www.vtb-league.com/en/game/796.htm

    VEF wins in Astana
In the capital of Kazakhstan, in stubborn fight of VTB United League championship VEF Riga defeated «Astana» - 83:73.

After a sensational victory of «Astana» over the Lithuanian «Zalgiris» other participants of group A, of course, began to prepare more responsibly to visit the capital of Kazakhstan.

But the home team won the starting minutes of the meeting. Effective actions of center Eric Williams helped Astana to go ahead- 6:2. But VEF, which recently gave battle to the current champions of the league «Khimki», quickly recovered and leveled the situation with the help of Curtis Millage and Antanas Kavaliauskas. Plus, two important shots by Sandis Valters helped VEF to win the first quarter - 22:21.

In the second quarter players preferred to concentrate their forces on defense. By the middle of the quarter the score became equal again - 26:26. But snipers of VEF quickly turned «+1» to «+8» by the end of the first half - 41:33.

During the break famous French acrobatic group «Crazy Dunkers» entertained basketball fans in Republican arena «Sary-Arka» and even more aroused the interest in the match.

But «Astana» managed to revive the intrigue only six minutes after the beginning of the third quarter. Rawle Marshall and Rustam Yargalievscored from a distance. But the VEF again managed to stop «Astana» controlling actions of the opposing team until the end of the match.

    83:73 - strong-willed victory of VEF.

In the home team the most productive became Branco Cvetcovic (19) and Rawle Marshall (17), whereas in VEF Kristaps Janicenoks gained 19 points and Sandis Valters, Tyler Cain and Curtis Millage scored 13 points each.

    12/11 BC Astana - Kalev 92-72 http://www.vtb-league.com/en/game/852.htm
Kazakhstan Astana on their home arena defeated Estonian «Kalev» in the match of VTB United League regular season – 92:72.

In their previous VTB United League game «Astana» lost to Latvian VEF. So this game was very important for the home team.

As a result, for the whole match Kalev leaded the score only once – 2:0, but 17 seconds later Rawle Marshall led the home team ahead making accurate three-point shot. It was he, and his American countrymen Eric Williams and Serb Branco Cvetcovic who were the leaders of Astana, scoring 22 points out of 25 team points in the first quarter.

But Kalev, also wanted to repeat the recent success of VEF. Under the leadership of Pavel Uljanko VEF made a spurt. And after Gregor Arbet scored three points in one attack, making a throw over Branco Cvetcovic with a foul, the advantage of Astana was reduced to one point - 33:32.
But Cvetcovic quickly corrected his mistake and made a jerk in response-16:4 and «+13» before the big break. This advantage Astana kept quite long.

At the beginning of the final 10-minute players of Astana organized crucial, smashing jerk - 13:4 and 84:63. The Final score - 92:72 in favor of Kazakhstan club
