  • Shizuoka Gymrats playing in American ABA

Last year some of these same Japanese players played in the IBL (International Basketball Association, another American minor league that runs later than ABA), under the name Nippon Tornadoes and lost almost all games by huge margins. Obviously the ABA is a joke of a league but nevertheless has talents better than Asia. Many players, Jun Iwasa, Takuya Okada, and Yosuke Sugawara either have JBL or BJ league experience and came all the way to the US to play. Add 2-3 black players and you have a team.

    Roster:
    #3 Yousuke Sugawara
    #5 Jun Iwasa
#25 Kazunari Boku (Korean born in Japan; Korean name: Park Hang-Saeng)
    #16 Kenji Kurasawa
    #13 Takuya Okada
    #12 Takahiro Misawa
    #9 Genki Roiwa
    +2-3 "imports"

According to this link it seems that this Sendai All-Star team mentioned is this Shizuoka Gymrats team. (Even though Shizuoka isn't that close to Sendai.) Some of the names are the same. If the rumors are true, the team could join the newly founded Canadian NBL, who are also attracting teams from China and Puerto Rico.
