For me, Group B is definitely the tougher group. Two of the Big 3 of Latin American basketball are in this group, plus you throw in the lads from the Canal (Panama) who have played in international major events and then the Uruguayans who have experienced European based or ex-European players as well as former NBA player Esteban Batista who anchors their offense and defense with his enormous 6'10" 270lbs frame.
I hope my 2nd favourite team: Los Charruas (Uruguay) finishes third but it will be tough as they have to take on a tough squad from Panama.

Having said all that, Group A is still mighty tough expecially if the Dominicans bring all their NBA players. Furthermore, Canada is a solid squad and the Venezuelans are a tough crew.

      Any predictions lads?

Since the end of the World Championships I've been saying Argentina to win. Homecourt advantage, what looks to be a full team barring injury, and the last hurrah for this generation.

The question I think is who gets the second automatic spot in the Olympics. Right now I'm leaning toward Brazil with Puerto Rico getting bronze, but who knows.

If all teams will be at full strenght, IMO it's Argentina and Brazil, who'll qualify to Olympics directly and Puerto-Rico, Canada, Dom.Rep. will go to AQR

Brazil tops Group A while Argentina tops Group B. I still would like Puerto Rico to pull a surprise over Argentina though.

Why is Paraguay in? They wouldnt beat Jamaica or Mexico in a minute.

Maybe the Guaranies are in to make up for the numbers ...

                  What about the lock-out?

I think Pitino will make Puerto Rico a better defensive team and better organized on his offense, thats what Puerto Rico need and I think this will make the boricuas a hard team to beat.

I'm curious as well on the effects that the pre-eminent and pre-heralded NBA Lock-Out 2011 would affect the the countries that has NBA Players on their National Team's core.

Jayson Granger - Club Estudiantes de Baloncesto - Uruguay

                      Buen dia,

Watch out for this lad to slowly obtain the torch as the new floor leader and eventual team leader of the "Charruas", Uruguay's national team.

If you're wondering if he's a local Afro-Uruguayan, he's not. His father (whom I used to coach against) is an African-American who has been living in Uruguay for the past 30 years, was a former Uruguayan basketball star in the 1980s. Jayson's mother is a former actress/ TV host and is a Uruguayan of Italian descent.

They showed a nice squad in the last South American, leaded by Guillermo Araujo.

In the other hand, Mexico looked very bad in the last few international tournament.

At least we´ll see some new faces.
