    • Carlos Loyzaga (1930-2016)

More tributes for the immortal Caloy Loyzaga: way back in 2010, we looked back at how he led the Philippines to the very first Asian Basketball Confederation (now FIBA-Asia) Men's Championship held at the Rizal Memorial in 1960. READ MORE

Point taken. But this year's wingmen (Norwood, Parks) are taller than the Centennials' (Duremdes, Meneses).

I think 5 months prior to the 1991 SEA games, the same core qualified in the QFs and eventually placed 7th in the 1991 ABC. Among the more prominent teams they beat is North Korea featuring 7'7 Michael Ri.

I think this was the last great amateur team before PHL descended down to the International Basketball Hell, no thanks to the people behind BAP, namely Lito Puyat, Freddie Jalasco, Tiny Literal, GoTeng Kok and the infamous Graham Lim.

Horribly coached, this team was. It was a talented team indeed - with Aquino, Limpot, Meneses, Chuatico and Abarrientos starting, and with Ravena, De Joya, Escobar, Solomon, Sasan, Fernandez and Pablo coming off the bench. Francis Rodriguez was the coach, and he's perhaps one of the most over-glorified coaches in basketball history. He would rank up there with the Johnny Tams, the late Dong Vergeire, the Boysie Zamars, etc. as those coaches that shouldn't have been.
