I read that issue. It was indeed embarrassing even for a 13 year old kid who followed the team's success despite the newspaper arriving in Davao a day late
The article had a picture with Dennis Still at forefront...

The NCC squad is the strongest ever, but the most controversial.

It was embarrassing reading a particular Asiaweek issue questioning
the multiple naturalized players who suited for the Philippine squad.
If it happened today, we may have suffered the same fate as that
of the Qataris.

Nonetheless, we're still considered the 1985 champions with this squad

I think he is included because he was a standout in the cebuana team and a star with the welcoat team in the pbl..But I don't know about Calimag or even Celino Cruz
