  • Going To Berlin, Germany

I'm going to study in Berlin for 6 weeks and I had a couple of questions for people that have been to Berlin before or live in Berlin.

    1) What should I check out while I am there? I hear there are a lot of museums, which are the best?

    2) I will have a lot of free time while I am there, what other cities or towns should I visit in Germany?

    3) Is Basketball popular in Berlin and are there many courts to play at indoor/outdoor?

    4) What are the best Night/Dance Clubs or Bars?

    Thanks in advance

I loved my time in Berlin. You definitely need to visit and spend some time in Kreuzberg district of Berlin.

I can't explain why but its great atmosphere - people of different nations combined, everyone relaxed, great bars... you being a basketball fan... of course you should definately go see the O2 Arena, too.

There are other people here more familiar with Berlin than me (who live or actually lived there), I'll let others to continue.

Since i used to live there (Kreuzberg)

        1) Get a tourist guide for that, you'll be more than covered. I never visited any museums. You should see the Berliner Dom on the Museum Island I guess.

2)Depends on the distance you're willing to travel and your budget. By train you can get everywhere pretty fast, but it is a bit expensive. From towns nearby I would suggest Potsdam where you can actually go by S-bahn. The mentioned Berlin tourist guide will cover the attractions. Other than that, Dresden and Hamburg are not that far. If you wanna go south, I guess, Koeln, Heidelberg and Munich. Don't rule out a trip to Amsterdam, Warsaw or Prague if you have the time and budget.

3)Very popular. you will find lots of courts. Go to Yaam club on the river, it has an interesting court and also in the area around the Max-Schmelling Halle (ex-Alba home).

4)Depends on your taste totally. You will find sth of everything. In sommer I would suggest the area around Schlesisches Tor and Goerlitzer Bahnhof stations. Friedrichshain also features some nice bars and you might wanna go to Mitte.

If you need more info let me know.

Qiangdade replies the 2nd and 3rd question

          1st one:
Judisches is a nice looking museum. I was not impressed but it was decent. The Agyptisches one has nothing interesting besides the Nephertite legendary statuette. The Technological one, the Anna Frank one, the Tacheles one, no clue about them. In general, pretty unimpressive city, museum-wise. Amazing city to watch overall, though

          4th one:
Depending on the music you listen to

          Top-5
          1) Berghain/Panorama Bar (#1 in Europe also. Probably in the World. Not even close)
          2) Watergate (2nd best club I've ever been to in my life)
          3) Deep (when it has parties. to be invited only online)
          4) Bar25 (By the river. I am hearing it's opening again October)
          5) Golden Gate (Decadant. For very specific tastes)

All of them play electronic music and are from Friedrichschain to Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer berg. In Mitte, there are different, more mainstream clubs
Sexuality when one reaches their 30s is either mainstream or sick, but no matter what, it isn't pure

Ah! The Pergammon Museum is supposed to be good.

About clubs and since it's summer I'd say Klub der Visonaere with its floating platforms

and Morena Bar where certain individuals of this forum became wasted.

What are you going to study, Ajax? Business? Language? Just curious.
"I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas

LOL My decision to go to Berlin was based very little on Sociology of Religion course.

I have another question. If I happen to play pick up basketball while I'm there, is there any German Basketball etiquette I should be aware of?

Before I visited my ex in Stuttgart back in 2006, I watched lots of German Porn for all my German etiquette/customs. [Deleted. Man... ]
