A very nice and interesting story about Martynas Andriuskevicius in an unexpected niche. Give this a read: Andriuskevicius' passion for photography http://www.lithuaniabasketball.com/n...otography.html

<...>“There was a guy snapping photos during Chicago Bulls games, who was a couple centimetres taller than me!” said Andriuskevicius. “It’s a pity that I didn’t start to take interest in photography before I left the United States. It would have been nice to have a chat with him and hear his story.”<...>

Here are a couple of Lithuanians coming into the NCAA next year:
              * Benas Griciunas - 6'9'' F/C, 18 years old. Committed to Auburn University. 4 more years left to play.
              * Romas Marcinkevicius - 6'7'' PF, 18 years old. Has Brown, Colgate, Lehigh and New York University chasing him. 4 more years left to play.
              * Aurimas Majauskas - 6'8'' PF, 19 years old. Has Utah Valley, Sam Houston State, South Dakota State University, Fordham, Coastal Carolina, Long Beach State chasing him. 4 more years left to play.

              Couple of oldies:
              * Martynas Bareika - 6'4'' SG/SF, 22 years old. Chattanooga. 2 more years left to play. Current stats: 14 MPG, 3.2 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 0.8 APG.
              * Gilvydas Biruta - 6'8'' SF/PF, 21 years old. Rhode Island. 2 more years left to play. Last year's stats: 25 MPG, 9.7 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 1.4 APG.
              * Gabas Maldunas - 6'9'' PF, 19 years old. Dartmouth. 2 more years left to play. Current stats: 27 MPG, 11.4 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.4 APG.

              This year's newcomers:
              * Robertas Puleikis - 6'10'' C, 19 years old. Drake. 3 more years left to play. Current stats: 6 MPG, 4.0 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 0.0 APG.
              * Mindaugas Kacinas - 6'7'' PF, 19 years old. South Carolina. 3 more years left to play. Current stats: 19 MPG, 4.9 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 0.7 APG.
              * Laimonas Chatkevicius - 6'11'' C, 20 years old. South Carolina. 3 more years left to play. Current stats: 13 MPG, 4.4 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 0.5 APG.
              * Egidijus Mockevicius - 6'10'' C, 20 years old. Evansville. 3 more years left to play. Current stats: 18 MPG, 5.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 0.2 APG.

I just listed a few who have a decent chance to play professionally. But overall, we have so many forwards and centers playing in the States and very few guards.

Apparently Gilvydas Biruta was abused by this Mike Rice cloune:

                      Pretty strong Euroleague's season coming:

                      -Kleiza
in Euroleague again. I would say we didn't have a world class Lithuanian players last two seasons in Euroleague. Well, OK, maybe it was Jasikevičius, but we basically saw him only at the end of the seasons.

                      - Both Rytas and Žalgiris look decent again. Žalgiris added Jasikevičius, Rytas added Gecevičius and Songaila.

                      - Unicaja with Mindaugas Kuzminskas, potentially shaping his name as a star player of Euroleague. Youngster Domantas Sabonis, will he face any playing time?

                      - Lokomotiv-Kuban will make some noise in Euroleague as well, IMO. Those who didn't know where Kalnietis was gone last season (some foreigners didn't even notice he had the best season of career), will have another shot after Eurobasket. Jasaitis will show how much valuable addition he could be for the NT 2014.

Worth mentioning: Mačiulis should be even more confident with "Panathinaikos" after Eurobasket. Will Kaukėnas find Euroleague's club?

                      Besides:

I'm interested how Marius Grigonis will do in the second division of ACB.

One player that is a little bit underrated is Laurynas Beliauskas. If Zalgiris is considering to bring back Dimsa and there's some chances that he might be in NT camp (I'm not a supporter, and I don't have Beliauskas there as well), it's very important to notice that Beliauskas is actually a better player. A bit inconsistent, but he proved his value all season long. In ACB he puts up 7,3pts, 6,2eppg in just 18min while Dimsa puts up 7pts, 3,2epg in 21min. Beliauskas shooting accuracy is much better and overall he's more effective offensively. Defensively they are on the same soil basically. Beliauskas should get some credit.

Huh? Which guards would you have in the NT camp then?

Kalnietis, Lekavicius, Jokubaitis, Kariniauskas, Grigonis, Giedraitis (if Kariniauskas out due injury, Velicka in).

I'm assuming that Vaidas Kariniauskas will be out due to injury. You therefore only have six candidates on your list. But Team Lietuva will need five guards anyway. I'd add two more candidates quite simply because the last thing you want is for a newcomer to get a "free pass" onto the team. Žygimantas Janavičius and either Tomas Dimša or Laurynas Beliauskas should be invited to training camp. That way nobody gets a free pass onto the team and we can be reasonably confident that all five of the final selections belong on the team.
