Default Brazil's Nene Vows to Retire by 2016 Olympics to Focus on Religion

It seems we can't count on Nene for the 2016 Olympics. He looks like he follows his religion with strong passion.

    Dear Lord...
The Euroleague Organization and Mr Bertomeu are like the Bulgarian Government: corrupt, partially stupid, and a huge underestimator of people's intelligence.

Playing basketball seems like more fun than reading nonsense in the bible or sitting in a church.

I don't follow any religion, but I can see how someone who has faith in those things would like to devote his life to the church, I don't think he is seeking fun.

Maybe his recovery from cancer has to do with this. Usually people whom recover from such illnesses tend to have stronger faiths later on in their lives and the way they perceive everything changes.

Yeah, but he was already a very religious man before it. I think his faith in God grew a lot when he first arrived in the USA. He took forever to learn english and it was really hard to communicate with him at least for 2 seasons, maybe he used the religon as something to hold on and trying to find himself in such a different place. That's just a guess.

Apparently he changed his mind, this is what he said according to the CBB site.

"I am very happy to know that Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Olympics. Like all athletes I dream since I was a kid to play an Olympic game, and the thrill would be much greater to play it in my country. If this is God's will, I'll be in the 2016 competition, playing or cheering for my colleagues. That would definitely be one of the biggest victories of my career."

He also said that he is pround and always want to play for the National Team and if he isin physically ok he will be in Turkey 2010.
