  • Serbian U17 National Team 2010

Next summer (in July), Serbia will take part to the 1st FIBA U17 World Championship in Hamburg (Germany). There are a lot of questions marks about this serbian team.

Who will be head coach, Nenad Trunic or another coach with more experience ?

Will Nenad Miljenovic (194 1993) play starting point guard and put another big talent Aleksandar Cvetkovic (185 1993) on the bench or will he remain at the shooting guard position ?

Who will be the starting center, Nemanja Bezbradica (205 1993) or Dusan Bogdanovic (209 1993) ?

Will Bogdan Radosavljevic agree to play for Serbia after the scandalous suspension given by Serbian Basketball Federation ?

Can we expect ethnic serbian players from Bosnia and Montenegro to finally play for Serbia as they are willing for ?

Any news if Djordje Mičić (200cm, 1993) will play for Serbia instead of BiH as it was rumored?

He is a Serbian from Republika Srpska (Serbian part of BiH).

or for Slovenia (he's got an offer to play for Slovenia too).

Micic isn't the only one in this case. There are rumours that at least 3 other players have the same offer (slovenian citizenship if they agree to play for Slovenia). One of them is Simo Atanackovic (205, 1990) and I know that he is willing to play for Slovenia. The two others are centers over 210cm and they are both born in 1992.

Mičić will probably play for Serbia, it's hard to get Slovenian passport before 18th birthday so in that case he would miss two years of international competitions.

Last week, in Belgrade, Serbian Basketball Federation organized a special camp for players born in 1993 and 1994. 20 players from local teams were called. They worked during two days with specific program for guards and for inside players. The main coach of this camp was Bosko Djokic (a very experienced coach) and he was assisted by Nenad Trunic (who will coach U17 generation at the world Championship in Germany), Gordan Todorovic, Sasa Nikitovic (who will coach serbian U16 national team), Zarko Vucurovic (one of the best coach for young players in Serbia), Mirko Ocokoljic and Marko Simonovic. Former national team players Sasa Djordjevic, Dejan Bodiroga and Dejan Milojevic were present too and they actively help kids with their knowledge.

            The players called were :

Aleksandar Cvetkovic (PG, 185, 1993, Crvena Zvezda)
Nemanja Dangubic (PG, 185, 1993, Kris Kros Pancevo)
Vukasin Vujovic (PF, 204, 1993, Partizan)
            Nikola Vujovic (C, 209, 1993, Partizan)
            Nenad Miljenovic (G, 194, 1993, FMP)
Nikola Pavlovic (SF, 195, 1993, FMP)
            Stefan Popovski-Turanjanin (F, 201, 1993, FMP)
            Nemanja Bezbradica (PF/C, 205, 1993, FMP)
            Pavle Reljic (SG, 194,1993, Zemun)
Nemanja Krstic (SF, 198, 1993, Hemofarm)
Djordje Milosevic (SF, 196, 1993, Hemofarm)
Luka Mitrovic (PF, 202, 1993, Hemofarm)
            Marko Cirovic (C, 204, 1993, Hemofarm)
            Nemanja Miskovic (1993, KG 06)
Nikola Cvorovic (SF, 196, 1994, Crvena Zvezda)
Mladen Djordjevic (PG, 187, 1994, Partizan)
            Nikola Radicevic (G, 195, 1994, Partizan)
            Stefan Pot (1994, Spartak Subotica)
            Nikola Zejak (C, 205, 1994, Partizan)
            Luka Nikolic (F, 201, 1994, Hemofarm)

Unfortunately, Miljenovic and Cirovic didn't come to the camp due to minor injuries. I mostly agree with this list of local players, I only regret the absence of players such as Marko Marinkovic (PF, 207, 1993, Crvena Zvezda), Nikola Socanac (1993, Beovuk), Strahinja Gavrilovic (1993, KG 06), Nikola Jankovic (F, 200, 1994, FMP) or Smiljanic (PG, 190, 1994, Mega Vizura)

Huge blow for serbian team, 212 cm tall center, Bogdan Radosavljevic will play for Germany. Unfortunately, once again money talks. Need to light a cigarette.

Worry not, the huge Serbian player pool will soon compensate the loss.

It would seem that Stephan Jankovic won't play for Serbia either
