Of course there's Space Jam, after all that's for the entire family
What's your favorite basketball movie?
Here's a list from among my tops: (All synopsis taken from: http://www.sandlotshrink.com/moviebkb.htm)
1. Finding Forrester (2000)… Sean Connery, Rob Brown, F. Murray Abraham, Anna Paquin, Busta Rhymes, April Grace, Michael Pitt, Michael Nouri, Richard Easton. Jamal Wallace, an excellent basketball player with exceptional writing talent, is sent to a prestigious prep school in Manhattan to play ball. He befriends a reclusive old writer, William Forrester, which helps both realize their dreams. Lots of basketball action. Alex Trebek has a cameo
My take: Great ending to a great plot. Of course you can not go wrong with Sean Connery. The writing angle did it in for me--- that's very, very rare in the basketball world. Anna Paquin as the "leading lady" was pretty much the "and 1" so to speak.
Semi-Pro (2008)… Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson. Comedy about the owner-coach-player (Jackie Moon) of the ABA’s Flint Michigan Tropics.
My take: Will Ferrell and/in basketball? Jackie Moon is the owner/coach/player/manager of the team, what more can you ask for really?
Coach Carter (2005)
Samuel L. Jackson, Rob Brown, Robert Ri’chard, Rick Gonzalez, Ashanti. Ken Carter, a former high school basketball star, accepts the job of head coach at his old high school in a poor area of Richmond, CA and improves the team with a stricter attitude. Based on a true story of the coach who benched his undefeated team because of their poor academic record in 1999. Bob Costas appears as himself. Worth seeing
My take: Hands down, this is the best movie (i have seen) which emphasizes on the vital role of a coach with the formation of players as a player, then as a human being. Lots of angles to love (player-coach, father-son, teacher-player, player-player, player-GF, player-friends)
... There are lots of other interesting basketball movies... i am downloading the torrents now actually What are your favorite movies?
