  3. The 26th FIBA Africa Championship. The tournament was scheduled to be hosted in Abidijan, Côte d'Ivoire. However, in 2011 Madagascar was chosen as host due to a political crisis in Côte d'Ivoire. Afrobasket 2011 featured 16 teams and was held August 17–28, 2011. Tunisia won the title for the first time upsetting Angola 67–56.

  4. Angola has won the 9 of the last 10 FIBA Africa Championships of basketball, spanning more than 20 years. Will 2009 be any different? Cameroon, Senegal, and Nigeria seem to think so. We'll see who comes out in Tripoli
