Basketball and Music

It's not a secret why most of American players and BB fans stuck with Rap and Hip- hop music. I'm not against it. It's the part of it, it's the part of a culture (or subculture). Even NBA seems to understand this and makes all these commercials familiar with rap music, even if they care only about ratings.
Now, the question is why most of European fans stuck with hip-hop as well when they playing BB, or making video clips and so on while European BB is really different than American? So, the question is simple, what kind of music style would you relate with basketball?

Personally, I think BB is very pretty and many-coloured game, so there might be different styles of music representing different teams or players. I understand when Kleiza's highlights are tracked with Rap music, but I'm not getting the point when S. Nash or Bodiroga moving in the rhythm of hip- hop, it should be classical music I'm not enjoying the fact that everything related with BB should be tracked with Rap music. What's your opinion on the issue?

No. All deleted. But I can tell you one (only "Asian") track I used in my video experiment. I thought it actually fit OK and I did not read any complaint after uploading it to Youtube.

Basically there are three types that are commonly used in basketball: rock, hip-hop and classical. Either way the common theme is a fast and strong beat. Voice and instrumental don't make a huge difference.

Also, right now there are free software (Audacity) that manipulates audio tracks with ease. Speed, pitch, everything. Basically if you have the time, you can be a DJ on the computer.

Also, this Yao Ming video is made by a non-Asian using 4 instrumental tracks. I thought it was a masterpiece in sound-mixing by an amateur, and I'm definitely not saying it because I'm Chinese.



But to be able to find such music you must listen to a lot of OST from movies and video games.

Classical music goes really well with basketball clips.

I think the most pronounced effect of rap is with Streetball rather than mainstream basketball.

Streetball just embraced rap music, tagging and graffiti.

How about the BGM (instrumental) with rap? I think they can fit well without words -- only problem is rap's BGM is mostly repetitive so you can't use it for > 1 minute. Remix it with some thing else or change speed here and there.

Personally the best choice for basketball music is soundtrack from a favorite (action) film. Listen to the music when the action is tightest, if you find it suitable then get the OST and use it. It definitely works better than any song from any band/group/artist

Definitely classical music with some serious rhythm behind, something just like Hymn of euroleague. BB is a beautiful game, so classic stands behind it, but it is 21. century, so electronic background fits perfectly IMO.

Hip-Hop music's foundation is urban and predominently black, so with basketball being dominated by black players stateside, the relationship between the two has become symbiotic.

I don't see anything wrong with European teams/arenas embracing Hip-Hop as background entertainment music. Maybe some clubs are simply following trends that they see in the US as far as creating a basketball atmosphere, but I can understand how some Europeans or others don't necessarily relate to Hip-Hop or American pop music in general because its origins aren't uniquely European. I don't know, would Steve Nash's highlights standout more under bossa nova or heavy metal? Maybe I'm bias, but somehow I can't imagine those choices working either.

As for Lithuania, I think it should be used more of Pagan or Folk rock! I don't like some aspects of that culture, but since basketball is not democratic process I think it fits perfectly
