In the NCAA Official Site there's an article titled Top-scoring freshmen, which shows twenty freshmen players leading their respective teams in scoring.
Though interesting, imo this is misleading in some ways, as several players belong to 2nd-tier colleges. Among good-level teams, worth to be mentioned are Diamond DeShields (UNC), Kelsey Plum (Wash), Aerial Powers (Mich St), Jessica Jackson (Ark), Leticia Romero (Kans St), Nia Coffey (Northw'rn) and few others.
But there's another point: excellent freshmen players like f.i. Kaela Davis, who is second in scoring at Geo Tech with 18.2ppg are af course not mentioned.
Btw, the national top-scoring freshman is currently Oregon's Chrishae Rowe with 22.3ppg, after her yesterday's (losing) effort of 39 pts, her career-high.

A fine surprise for Baylor comes from freshman fw Nina Davis, who is second in team's scoring with 13.8 ppg (after PoY candidate Odyssey Sims) and first in rpg (8.8). In yesterday win over Oklahoma she was 9/11 in FG and collected 14 reb.
A former Parade All-American, Davis was just ranked #52 in 2013 ESPN class.

Rutgers' guard Tyler Scaife is another freshman currently 2nd in her team's scoring with 13.4 ppg (she's preceeded by soph Kahleah Copper with 15.4). She has recently been named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the week for the third time.
Scaife was a highly rated 2013-class player (#9 overall by ESPN), who played in the McDonald's All-American game and was elected MVP at the HS All-America Game of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Young Belgian PG Hind Ben Abdelkader (Fr at California) has left USA to return to Belgium and will likely play next Sunday for her former home team.
The 2011 U16 Fiba Europe MVP averaged just 4.9 ppg at Berkeley and probably never fitted in her new team.

Terrible freshmen Diamond DeShields and Allisha Gray score 30 and 24 pts to lead visitor UNC over Duke 89-78.
#3 Duke will drop several places after this new setback.
Among the top ranked teams just UConn and Notre Dame are unbeaten so far.

Sr Fw Natasha Howard set a school record yesterday when she scored 40 pts in Florida State's triumph at Syracuse 83-59.
This is also the scoring record for ACC this season.
Howard was the overall #2 HS player in 2010 and was named co-MVP at the McDonald's All-American game that year.

                    • Overcoming injury-related adversities #7 Duke routed #8 Maryland 84-63 at home, with soph guard Alexis Jones scoring a career-high 5 threes.
Duke lost All-Am candidate senior guard Chelsea Gray to injury in January, while top 2013 HS prospect Rebecca Greenwell has still not played a single college game and will likely redshirt this season. Redshirt-freshman Amber Henson, after missing two collegiate seasons plays sparingly as she's still ailing from a 2012 knee surgery.
Duke has a tough conference schedule and will next meet ranked North Carolina State, Notre Dame and North Carolina.

                            • Sophomore guard Sydney Moss scored a DivIII-record 63 pts. She currently leads DivIII in scoring average.
Sydney Moss, the daughter of former NFL receiving great Randy Moss, set the NCAA Division III record for scoring in a game with 63 points for Thomas More in the semifinals of the Kentucky school's conference tournament.
