Season's just started and #1 UConn already lost two its rising stars.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis is out indefinitely for a nerve contusion of her right elbow after a hard fall to the ground in the game won with Stanford and Morgan Tuck will sit out 4-6 weeks after arthroscopic surgery to remove cartilage form her right knee (the same knee she injured at the 2009 U16 USA Basketball trials).

Sr center Stefanie Dolson became the 2nd player in UConn history to record a triple-double. Yesterday she scored 26 pts, grabbed 14 reb and dished out 11 asst in the 114-68 win over Oregon.
From a team historically filled with superstars, the other UConn triple-double record holder is relatively unknown Laura Lishness (1989 Big East Tournament).

Freshman Stephanie Mavunga scored 20 pts for North Carolina on a perfect 10/10 shooting and collected 13 reb + 5 blocks in an easy win over Coastal Carolina 106-52. Diamond DeShields, another UNC freshman, was the high scorer with 21.

Senior center Karla Gilbert scored 18 pts (on 7/7 FG ad 4/4 FT shooting) and grabbed 14 reb in yesterday's Texas A&M win over Memphis.
That was her first double-double in a relatively anonymous NCAA career.
A 2010 everybody's HS All-American, Gilbert grew up at Texas A&M in the shadow of Kelsey Bone, a 2013 WNBA 1st round pick.
This is the first year she's a regular starter for the Aggies.

In a season marked by great incoming freshmen, relatively unknown Malia Tate-DeFreitas of Hampton is averaging over 20 ppg.
Yesterday this young guard (19y) scored 36 pts in Hampton's win over Utah State 98-88.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas and senior forward Alyssa Bennett each had career days on Friday, as the Hampton University women's basketball team outlasted Utah State 98-88 in the Matadome to open the Cal State Northridge Radisson Hotel Chatsworth Thanksgiving Classic.

Tate-DeFreitas averaged nearly 30ppg as a HS senior in the 2012-13 season.

Arguably the tallest college player at 2.10m (6-11), Jamaican-born Marvadene 'Bubbles' Anderson is a redshirt freshman at Pittsburgh.
She sat out last year's season to improve her basketball game.
Yesterday she scored a career-high 18 pts (7/9 shooting), collected 6 reb and had 4 blocks in Pittsburgh win over Wagner 69-55.

#2 Duke hosts tonight #1 Connecticut in the showdown of the week.

Both teams are unbeaten, though they have faced injury-related adversities.

UConn has lost Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Morgan Tuck for more than one month. They are rated as 'probable' to return playing tonight.

Duke's top prized freshman Rebecca Greenwell has still to start her first college game, while redshirt-freshman Amber Henson has seen little action so far after returning from a long inactivity. Both have dealt with knee surgeries.

UConn anyway is favorite to stay at the top.

South Carolina's freshman center Alaina Coates was perfect in shooting (7/7 from the field and 9/9 from the free throw line) in yesterday easy win over South Carolina State 70-26. She also contributed with 5 reb and 3 blocks.
Coates was the #4 center in the 2012-13 ESPN HS rankings.
