  • Regular season is nearing its conclusion with some big upsets.

South Carolina SEC undefeated season came to an end in the last game vs Kentucky (led by sr guard Jennifer O'Neill 15 pts). Gamecocks' performance was hindered by cold shooting.

Virginia clearly beat #8 Louisville 75-59, with sr center Sarah Imovbioh scoring 22 pts (on 7/7 FG shooting) and collecting 17 reb. Jr guard Faith Randolph topped Cavaliers with 23 pts.

Oregon upset #19 Stanford 62-55, behind yet another double-double by Jillian Alleyne, her 27th in the season.

    • Ohio State guard Kelsey Mitchell is the only freshman in the Naismith Trophy 10 semifinalists.

Mitchell finished the regular season 2nd in Div I national scoring (24.5ppg).

Another freshman, Notre Dame's Brianna Turner is first in FG % with an awesome 68.1.

      • Jr Fw Jillian Alleyne of Oregon finished her season topping D1 in double-doubles, 28 on 30 games played.
Unfortunately her team lost yesterday to Washington State (led by Lia Galdeira 34 pts) and is out of Pac-12 tournament.
Alleyne is second in rpg to Oral Roberts' center Vicky McIntyre.

        • Amanda Zahui B. scored a triple-double (25 pts, 11 reb, 11 ast) but it wasn't enough for Minnesota that lost to Ohio State (Kelsey Mitchell 29 pts) in Big Ten quarters. This was Zahui second triple-double this season, matched only by another player, guard Brittany Boyd of Cal.

          • This is the championship week and teams winning their conference's receive an automatic bid for NCAA tournament. Among them Princeton (29-0), easy winner in Ivy League, and the only major college team still undefeated.

Tigers finish their unblemished regular season 30-0 with a hard fought win over Pennsylvania and expect now a high seed for NCAA tourney.

            • ESPN 2015 awards:

              - Jewell Loyd, junior at Notre Dame is Player of the Year

              - Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State is Freshman of the Year

              - Sue Semrau of Florida State is Coach of the Year

In-season performance trumped preseason hype, as Notre Dame's Jewell Loyd was voted espnW National Player of the Year over preseason favorite Breanna Stewart of UConn.

Kelsey Mitchell ends regular season as national leading scorer with 25.0ppg (update to my previous post).

              • Iowa's 5'9" senior point guard Samantha Logic ('92) was named a second-team ESPN All-American. Logic is the only women’s basketball player in NCAA history to collect at least 1,400 points, 800 rebounds, 800 assists and 200 steals in a career. She is the NCAA's active career assists leader & ranks 14th in NCAA history.

                • On ESPN 2, in a couple of minutes, two of the best senior point guards in women's college basketball will face each other. Iowa's 5'9" Sam Logic vs American University's 5'10" Jen Dumiak. Terrific match up of, in my opinion, two legitimate WNBA players.

                  • D1 of NCAA tournament with a couple of near-upset, as Duke and Texas survived with close wins vs Albany and Western Kentucky.
RS Freshman Rebecca Greenwell scored a final three (finishing 6/13 from long range) to give Blue Devils the pass for the second round.
Remarkable performance of Texas' center Imani McGee-Stafford who scored 24 pts (on 10/13 FG shooting and 4/4 FT) and collected 15 reb.
Another double-double from Amanda Zahui B. (21 pts + 22 reb) wasn't enough for Minnesota, defeated by DePaul 79-72.

                    • No big suprises in D2 of NCAA tourney's first round, except the loss of Texas A&M to Arkansas Little Rock.

#1 UConn cruised through the first game as expected, shooting an impressive 64% form the field. Morgan Tuck topped all scorers with 26 pts and 12/13 FG, adding 8 assists. Freshman teammate Gabby Williams was perfect in shooting with 7/7 FG and 6 reb in just 14' action.
