      • 2014-15 Season started with fireworks.

Several top 25 teams scored over 100 pts, UConn, Notre Dame, UK, Maryland, Iowa and Baylor, while Tennessee and Stanford finished just short the 100-pt mark.

Remarkable debut of Irish freshman Brianna Turner with 29 pts + 9 reb, while sr Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and soph Saniya Chong of UConn both scored all their 30 and 12 pts from the 3-pt lane, with an amazing 10/13 and 4/5 shooting, respectively.

Another freshman, Lady Vol Alexa Middleton, had a sparkling debut with 20 pts (8/11 shooting) and 11 assists. Mariya Moore led Louisville with 22 pts, as well.

Among Top-25 teams, only losers were UCLA (vs James Madison) and Dayton (upset by Washington State).

        • Jr Sydney Moss of Thomas More College was named Div III pre-season Player of the Year. The daughter of former NFL great Randy Moss, Sydney probably was an easy choice, after being named 2013-14 National Player of the Year. She transferred from DI University of Florida after her freshman season.

Another (former) DIII star Lauren Avant, a 2013-14 WBCA All-American and PoY finalist at Rhodes, ended her collegiate playing career but will continue as an assistant coach at Union University. She too was a DI transfer from University of Tennessee, enduring several injuries from HS through college.

#5 ranked Texas A&M almost upset by UT Pan American, winning just 63-61 after trailing for long periods in the game.

            • UConn lost at Stanford 88-86 in OT, ending its 47-game winning streak. Top ranked Huskies were ahead +3 with 13" to go but decided not to foul on Cardinal's final action, just to be nailed by a 3-pointer shot by Amber Orrange with 1" left, that sent the game to OT and the eventual win from Stanford.
Guards Lili Thompson and Amber Orrange led Stanford with 24 and 17 points, Breanna Stewart scored 23 pts (+10 reb) and Saniya Chong 20 (her career-high) for UConn.

Fw Ronni Williams was perfect in shooting (8/8 FG , 3/3 FT for 98 pts) in Florida's easy win over Longwood.

              • A'ja Wilson had a fine game for South Carolina in yesterday's rout of Clemson 99-41, after struggling in the opener. She scored 18 pts, on 6/8 FG and 6/7 FT shooting. Positive contribution from other freshmen Jatarie White and Bianca Cuevas, as well.
If they keep winning over the weekend Gamecocks could go up to #1 ranking.
