Kenny George, like Tyler Hansbrough, is a junior at his Carolina college. Let's look at his stats:

His points per game is rather mediocre with 12.8 per contest. If we look down the chart a little bit, however, we will come to the rebounds per game and blocks per game section. He averages an amazing 9.3 rebounds per game. Let's compare that with Roy Hibbert's 6 rpg. That's pretty impressive if I don't say so myself. Tyler Hansbrough has 9.9 rebounds per game. Even though Hansbrough may have 0.6 RPG more than George, it's still pretty impressive that he's up towards the top of that category with a bunch of future All-Americans. He makes up for it, however, in the blocks column. Once again, George averages an outstanding amount of blocks with 5.4 per game. How much does the great Hansbrough average you say? 0.3 bpg. What about big man Hibbert? 2.3 bpg. George has the blocks column covered with his 5.4 bpg having him ranked first in the nation with that statistic and one behind Mississippi State's Jarvis Varnado in total blocks with 65.

Now sure, UNC and Georgetown are better teams that are ranked in the Top-25. I, myself, would rather be on one of their teams than UNC- Asheville's team. UNC and Georgetown play better and are coached better, but don't leave UNC- Asheville out so quickly. At the moment, they are 11-3. They still have a great chance at making the NCAA tournament this year. If they don't get in this year, which would be very unlikely, they will, without a doubt, get in next year. Kenny George will only continue to get bigger, stronger, smarter, and better at this game. He may become an All-American next year and will definitely be a top pick in the NBA draft. Not only is he taller than Mr. Yao in Houston, but he is also bigger and stronger. He is a defensive powerhouse alone. The only thing he has to be cautious of is his fouls.

According to a recent article I've read, he has to have his puritary glands checked each month. On the negative side, George is slow getting up and down the floor, and has had a history of bothersome knee problems. The NBA is a very quick, fast paced game and Kenny simply can’t run very well and his moves down low are very methodical. http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...st_player.html

You make some very good points about George's statistics, Ram. Thanks for bringing that up. I'm not sure if Asheville will make it to the tournament this year or next, but with George, they certainly do have a better chance.

Yes, George is taller than Yao and he looks stronger, but, as you know, George is very slow. That will be the biggest factor to whether or not he gets on an NBA court.
The only thing he has to be cautious of is his fouls.
Yes. Good point. That's the biggest problem for all centers, and an even bigger problem for George because of his lack of speed.

One question I have is why George was never recruited by another, bigger university. If he's so good, I'd think better universities would offer him better scholarships and the chance to play in a better program.

But the truth is this: there is room in professional basketball for a 7'8" player.

good question. i've been lingering about that. he's been logging in good numbers for unc asheville and if i remembered it correctly from what i read he is the first player to record triple double in the school's history. considering the stats that he have along with his knee injuries and being slow, he's really efficient and underrated.

did shawn bradley or any other 7'5 or higher that i don't know of who played u.s. ncaa that made it to the nba averaged the same as kenny during their college stint?

if he enters the nba draft what round do you think would he be drafted or will he be drafted?(though i think he would be, he's 7'8 for god's sake!)

and if he do make it, what team would most likely will draft him? or what team will he fit in best?

So, George is getting some good numbers. I mean, on the NCAA court, he's doing some great things. But like everybody is saying, he's just so slow.

Bradley only played one season at BYU (he was on a religious mission for two years). He averaged about 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game. Kenny George is averaging about 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game.
if he enters the nba draft what round do you think would he be drafted or will he be drafted?(though i think he would be, he's 7'8 for god's sake!)
If he can pass a physical examination, I think he'll be a second round draft pick. His size makes him so valuable as a defensive player.

I read that this guy has already had two knee surgeries. Combine that with his lack of speed and lack of mobility, and a lot of NBA teams will be scared. Of course, plenty of slow players have been great in the NBA, so we really can't tell what his future will hold.
and if he do make it, what team would most likely will draft him? or what team will he fit in best?
Any team, really. I don't see see George playing more than 15 minutes a night. When NBA teams were scrambling to get visas for the 7'8" Myung Hun "Michael" Ri, most scouts thought Ri could play 15 minutes a night as a defensive specialist and contribute to just about any team. I think the same way about George.

I don't think he will go overseas. A lot of international leagues are simply too fast for him, like the NBA. And leagues that tend to be slower usually are semi-pro. Perhaps George will join the USBL or CBA or something like that.

A note from Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Worjankowski from yesterday:
                Basketball Planet

Yes, those whacky ESPN analysts – always preaching class and dignity, blah, blah, blah – are having a hell of time riding 7-foot-7 Kenny George of UNC-Asheville. One of them compared him to The Chief in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" on air and another "fell out of my chair laughing" upon hearing it.

Yes, let's compare a mild-mannered, polite college student to a mentally ill character in a movie.

                Good times.

George, a serious student, has plans on going into the film-making business. He isn't a freak. He's human.

Of course, he plays just at UNC-Asheville.

If Kenny George played in Durham or Chapel Hill, the ESPN guys would be lecturing us on civility.

Yes, neither can I and I searched quite a bit already. Some mystery...

He graduated from high school in 2004, so he is probably 21 or 22.

                        I think Muresan is slower..

Actually, with the videos provided about George, I think the other way around.

George hadn't played much in recent games due to his knee problems, and UNCA lost four in a row after an 18-4 start. But he returned this weekend with 15 points in 18 minutes in a win over Charleston Southern.
