Melo, who missed the last three games for Syracuse (23-1, 10-1 Big East) for what were believed to be academic reasons, was 5-of-6 from the field with three rebounds and two blocked shots in 21 minutes of court time.

Dion Waiters and C.J. Fair also tallied 14 points, and Kris Joseph added 13. The win was the seventh in a row for the Orange and 879th of Coach Jim Boeheim’s career, which tied him for third place on the all-time NCAA Division I list with North Carolina’s Dean Smith.

D’Angelo Harris led St. John’s (10-13, 4-7) with 23 points and Moe Harkless added 15. St. John’s had won its previous two Big East games.

Syracuse led 41-27 at halftime and kept pouring it on by scoring the first 9 points of the second half.OM NCAA basketball scores and highlights, February 4, 2012
