  • Should Milwaukee trade Michael Redd?

Andrew Bogut and Michael Redd, both are the highest paid players in the Bucks squad, both are the two main players for the team and both were benched for the whole second half in the Bucks' embarrassing loss to the Charlotte Bobcats.

Milwaukee is on the downturn, they have lost two straight and in the last ten games they haven't had much success.

What is wrong with the squad? Why haven't they had much success? Why do you think Jennings has slowed down? Why did Bogut and Jennings only get a few field goal attempts in their lost to the Wizards while somebody launched a horrible 8 from 22 from the field?

Is it me, or has the downturn occured once Redd returned?

A few members here have said that Redd is a typical hog and someone who shoots for the sake of shooting.

Should Redd be traded so that the focus of the squad returns to Bogut and Jennings? We all know and have seen that both were doing quite well without Redd in the lineup. Though the two cannot carry the team all by themselves, eventually, I could imagine this 1-2 punch becoming a more effective combo rather than having Redd as the pure focus of the team.

It's actually obvious that they'd want to rid themselves of a one-dimensional, injury-prone player like Redd... The real problem lies with the fact that he has a massive contract which runs through 2012-13* (Let me check but it's definitely not the every valuable "expiring" contract)

The Bucks started rather well even without him; as the young team struggled it coincided with his return (in fairness, they struggled as well even before he returned)...

But yeah, they should "try" to trade him; try being the operative word.

The Bucks have a fun, young, exciting team, and Michael Redd is just taking up cap room on a team that is barely in the playoffs right now. Trade him, get some young assets, and use that money to get a young stud in the future to play with BJen

But who is stupid enough to risk with the fat contract?

(i was mistaken, the contract runs through 2011--- with a player option on the final year)

        2009-2010 - $17.1M
        2010-2011 - $18.4M

If you are a contender (because if you are not, you have no business chasing him) would you bite that 35M contract?

Well, there is hope because there are still some stupid GM's out there. So yeah, maybe just maybe the Bucks has a chance to unload him.

Redd deserves more than thirteen games to find his shot after some injuries. Jennings started very hot and was always going to cool off.

True but already we are seeing that with a scoring PG like Jennings (who will demand his shots) it seems like a bad fit with a volume scorer like Redd.

Thing is 17M for a franchise player, who doesn't do too much, isn't very justifiable--- especially for a semi-rebuilding team like the Bucks.

Milwaukee should still give Redd the chance as Redd's injuries for the past two seasons came from driving to the basket and landing awkwardly. Now with Brandon Jennings in tow and the array of Ilyasova, Redd and Delfino; they have shooters at threats and as the situation dictates it; Redd's hefty contract is not accommodating alongside his past injuries. Stick with what they have and try to develop or keep a unique brewing as 2010 could herald a major landscape re-alignment.

                .
Jennings is a hog and still just a kid..
he can't lead a team without any expirience how to do it..
scoring is not leading the team..
Redd has been there, he has done that..
                Jennings didn't..
and Skiles is a moron for trusting his team into the hands of a young kid..
I watched them the other night, and he is just a plain asshole..
once the other teams realized that you just need to cut the space for Jennings and he becomes lost on the field..
but this is NBA, headlines look good when he scores 20+..
if he would play a playoff game I'll bet my house he wouldn't be allowed to score more then 10 points..
Bucks poor results didn't start when Redd came back, they started their slump earlier then that..
they brought back Redd a little bit sooner so he could fix that..
but Jennings still has the same rights in the game he had before Redd came back
he is not Paul or Williams.. hell he is not even Harris..
as soon as Skiles realises that and cuts his playing time Bucks will be back..
they have enough talent to do that..
not with a kid as their leader though..
                it doesn't work like that..

and they got slaughtered by Orlando even though they had an 8 point lead at HT..
Bucks looked really good with Ridnour running the game..
still Skiles played Jennings more at the point..
Jennings scored 20 and Bucks got slaughtered..
                  he shot 19 balls..
with the way this is going for the Bucks Skiles could and should be fired real soon..
this was their fourth defeat in a row..
                  15-th in 19 games..

                    nba pm: Milwaukee's redd problem

by: Jason fleming last updated: 12/29/09 8:42 pm et

the redd conundrum: What should the milwaukee bucks do with guard michael redd? He's on the books for a ton of cash - $17 million this season, $18.3 million in 2010-11 – but he just hasn't been healthy much. In fact, redd has played in more than 53 games just once in the last four years and already missed 16 games this season.

And now coach scott skiles sees him as a player he can bench at will.

There was a time when redd would be on the floor no matter what, when his presence was integral to a bucks victory. Unfortunately for the bucks and their fans that time seems to mostly be before redd signed his six-year, $90 million contract back in august of 2005. That first year of the contract redd averaged career-highs of 25.4 points (eclipsed the next year) and 2.9 assists, then the next season – injury-shortened to 53 games – redd poured in his career-high of 26.7 points.

Since then redd had still been productive when he played, but he hasn't seemed his same self. He was a step slow on drives and while his shooting is still deadly it just hasn't been as effective.

This year redd has played only 13 games, scoring 11.5 points a game on a paltry (putting it lightly) 33.6% shooting from the field, and only 26.7% from three-point range.

Then, last night in a loss to the charlotte bobcats, both redd and center andrew bogut weren't taken off the bench the entire second half. True, the cats were up by a decent amount, but the team did claw back without their perceived stars.

"i was real surprised," said rookie guard brandon jennings. "i thought once we got it down a little bit, we were going to bring them back in, you know bogut and redd and them."

ostensibly this was because neither redd nor bogut were giving much attention to defense, something that is a serious crime on a skiles-coached team. For bogut it's a crime anyway; he's a decent defender. For redd? Perhaps not so much, since he never has been considered even a passable defender.

Not playing defense is not what got redd benched; not making shots is what did it. If redd, a player who made his name and earned his contract on the basis of being a dead-eye shooter with the quickest trigger around, cannot make shots he's not worth the bucks having on the floor. He's never been a great passer, isn't much of a rebounder, and doesn't play defense.

In short, if redd isn't making shots, he's a $17 million liability. So what do the bucks do with him if they don't think he's worth playing? Is someone going to trade for him at those dollars if he isn't hitting jumpers? Highly doubtful.

Yes, redd could become a free agent after this year. He has an early termination option on his contract after this summer, meaning if he exercises it he would be bypassing $18.3 million for one season in favor of free agency. Think that's going to happen? Yeah, probably not.

The bucks may very well just be stuck with redd and hope he can somehow return to the form that earned him all the money in the first place.
