  • Allen Iverson to retire from NBA

Not that big of a surprise, but....

Allen Iverson to retire from NBA
After playing for three different teams the last three seasons and a summer of frustration trying to find a team to play for, Allen Iverson is ready to call it quits and retire after 14 seasons in the NBA.

Currently, Iverson is an unrestricted free agent after having a fallout with the Memphis Grizzlies after just three games.

Yahoo Sports’ Marc Spears was told by Iverson’s personal manager Gary Moore that the 34-year old superstar is planning on retiring. Spears announced Iverson’s retirement on his Twitter.

Not a huge surprise, he really should have done it in the offseason. Still despite a couple years he'd like to forget, the man is a first ballot hall of famer and deservedly so.

      To be expected......

But I won't be surprised to see him play again.

Neither will I. Although he later says he's quitting the game, he clearly says he retires from the NBA, which leaves the rest of the world. Europe? China?

Hope he doesn't get inspired by anything related to Marbury

No one can deny that what Iverson was able to accomplish in the NBA, especially with him being only 6 feet, is quite remarkable and definitely deserves recognition.

iverson will always be remembered for being 1 of the few if not the only players who used to score over 25PPG and only 6 feet but to be honest he is overrated . He was always selfish and u had to build the team around him that is why he could only do well with philadelphia and only for a few seasons . Everyone remembers him for his one season in 2001 when they barely got to the nba finals by winning their last 2 rounds in 7 games . Its funny how noone remembers any other players who got their teams to the nba finals before losing like lebron games and dirk nowitzki . That year in 2001 all the teams in the east were the same level so anyone could,ve made it like the raptors, bucks or hornets ....not that impressive from iverson if u think about it now . and 1 more thing he used to trash talk and give me excuses more than he used to play like a spoiled kid and that attitude shouldnt be with someone who was poor his whole life before starting basketball he should,ve been more humble and appreciative . He used to be against that and than talk and say he was humble and appreciative . This is all true and whats true should be said and not just say nice things just cuz hes retiring . He is an explosive 6 feet scorer thats why i used to like watch his games to see how many points he was gonna score and how many passes he was gonna give but thats it and for the most most part i didnt like him and thats why no team wants him even though "Iverson" only wants 3 million i think .

Crash and Burn rather than fade away; a path followed by the most prideful of persons. Someday, we'll see him on the HOF.

AI on HOF? You are kidding... He never will be among 50 best players, because he is just selfish and played at HOF level only couple seasons

Well, there are currently 139 players in the Hall of Fame, so being inducted doesn't make you one of 50 best players of all time. He definitely doesn't deserve to be called one of 50 greatest players of all time, but as for HOF... I don't know, I never really liked the guy, so I would say no, but I'm sure many will disagree.

Often being a part of the so called NBA lore and hailed as the best scorer in his size will eventually land him in the HOF. NBA standards con enshrinement.

                        An MVP
                        10x All Star
                        3x NBA all first team
                        3x NBA all second team
                        4x scoring champion
                        17th all time scoring

You might not like him, and yeah there are plenty of reasons not to, but saying he won't be in the hall of fame is silly.

This is already expected. After New York downplayed rumors that they'll sign him a contract, I guess AI had lost interest playing else where in the L at this point in time.but for me this is going to be a short-live retirement I guess. Dude's def gonna be back next season or who knows after the All-Star break perhaps. But for the meantime, I love to see him and Stephon Marburry do a reality show entitled "PIMP MY PRIDE" or he can also write a book that reads "EGO FOR DUMMIES"

John Thompson says he talked to Iverson and that he's not retired.

he cant find a team now that suits his playing style, well if thats the case it better to call it quits since, no one is interested on him.

regarding the honor yes he must be honored, he was one of the promising guards that played the game and made a lot of impact. im sure he is a future hall of famer though.
