  • 1. Yannakis is not the right coach for the players oly has. Gershon could do miracles with this roster.

    2. For the amount of money oly spends for Chill they could have gotten Siskauskas...

Not about his overall value, but about him being the right type of player 4 Olympiacos and European bball in general. Still, we r just in November, we have more than a full semester in the season 2 b played and nobody knows what can happen in the next months. I just advise everybody 2 b cautious when u talk about an unerachiever. The ability exists, nobody forgets 2 play bball, it's the circumstances that make the difference and circumstances sometimes change.
he deserves time ofcourse.i think he will be much better if the people of OLY give him time.but as i have said i dont see him be much better this year.maybe he will help more but not significant.the players that change a lot during a period are few

        • I was watching a recording of the Hawks-Celtics game from ESPN in the US and they reported that Josh Childress is leaving Olympiacos. He talked with the Atlanta Hawks general manager and he will be leaving Olympiacos after this year and going back to the NBA to play with either the Hawks or another NBA team, meaning the Hawks can trade his rights to another NBA team.

They also talked to Childress live on the air over the phone and he made it pretty clear IMHO that he does not like it in Greece.

He then proceeded to bitch and complain about how the fans of Olympiacos are too intense and how he can't go out anywhere because of them and even about how he can't stand it how if his team loses the fans get all mad about it and saying that this didn't matter when he played in the NBA.

The tone he used on the phone to me was very apparent that he does not like it in Athens and that he does not like the Olympiacos fans and that he cannot wait to get out of there. However, strangely enough, he made no mention of the fact that he has been a huge disappointment so far. It was interesting though how ESPN kept showing his NBA stats and his Euroleague stats on the TV screen and how his NBA stats looked noticeably better. It was like they were forcefully trying to make a point of it.

          • Is this guy really worth SO MUCH attention? For me it's really strange when mediocre NBA player comes to Europe and everyone is talking about it... What's so big deal? Last year it was Woods, now it's Childress, next year there will be another mediocre overpaid player
LTU NT will snatch Eurobasket 2029 title with this roster:

            Jokubaitis, Marciulionis, Laurencikas
            Indrusaitis, Brazdeikis, Rubstavicius
            Buzelis, Lelevicius
            Murauskas, Sirvydis
            Tubelis, Krivas

              come on.
Childress diserved the fuss about his transfer. he is indeed overpaid.
but compare him to Woods . Not same career... basicaly not even same gameplay :P

The difference is that Woods never had a good season in the NBA. In his years there he never did anything. Childress on the other hand every year in the NBA was averaging double figures in points and he was the 6th man of a playoff team that took the NBA champion Celtics to 7 games in a playoff series.

There were 5 NBA teams offering him the full NBA MLE contract and yet he went instead to Olympiacos. So from the perspective of US media it was a big deal because they have the belief that any such NBA player will dominate in Europe, average 50 points a game, win the championship, and win the MVP. The sports media in US has same exact opinions as do the fans about game of basketball in Europe.

From Euro perspective it seems stupid because Childress is just a solid player on a top 5-7 Euro club and that is all. So in a way this is making NBA look bad. Bad that he at first went to Olympiacos and also now that he is showing that Euroleague is actually a more serious league than they think in the US. Thus, it is a big deal to them.

Childress never said anybody was asking him to be the guy to take 20+ shots a game... He adapted well to Euro ball philosophy apparently. So, you can't say his season is really bad.

Childress definitely was whining and complaining about Olympiacos fans. Absolutely, that was what he was doing.

                      • BTW, in his ESPN interview Angelopoulos was asked what would make the 15+ million euros Childress signing a success and worth the money spent. He said it would be a success and worth the money spent "if Olympiacos wins the triple crown, all 3 championships, Greek league, Greek cup, and the Euroleague. If we don't win all 3 championships then it will not be worth the money spent."

                        Well...............

                        • He did not say these things, otherwise I would have noticed by the sports websites that I'm reading every day. No way such a thing to "escape" unnoticed. Only original sources please.

                                You will never get it.

As for Childress being worth it the 15m eiro investment, he has to stay for 3 years to receive this money, which I don't see happening.

Ofcourse, as a PAO fan I hope he will stay for the whole duration of his contract and even more!
