The Charlotte Bobcats on Thursday signed forward Adam Morrison, the third overall pick of last week's draft.
Under the rookie salary scale, Morrison will make $6.25 million in the first two years of the deal that runs through 2007-08. The Bobcats hold club options for the next two years of the contract.
"We are pleased to sign Adam and to get him on the basketball court with our team," Bobcats general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said. "He is a quality young man and a fine talent who we are excited to have as part of our organization. We have already seen how his skills will benefit our team and how competitive he is on the court."
The 6-8, 205-pound Morrison will play for the Bobcats in the Orlando Summer League next week. On July 19, he will begin training camp with Team USA, hoping to be among 23 players selected to the squad that will compete for the FIBA World Championship in Japan.
"I am glad to sign my first contract and start my NBA career here in Charlotte. It has been a lifelong dream to play in the NBA," said Morrison, who led the nation in scoring at 28.1 points per game as a junior with Gonzaga. "I look forward to doing whatever I can to help the Bobcats take the next step as we build towards a championship."
After sending Rasho to Toronto and with the Pistons signing Nazr Mohammed to replace Ben Wallce, it seems quite likely that Javtokas will be signing with the Spurs as both backup pivots are now with other teams...
The Detroit Pistons reached an agreement with free-agent centre Nazr Mohammed on Tuesday, a day after losing Ben Wallace to the Chicago Bulls, according to a league source.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because NBA free agents can't officially sign contracts until July 12, said the team and Mohammed made an oral agreement on a five-year contract - with the final year being an option. The deal will reportedly pay Mohammed about $5 million US next season.

Pittsnogle signs free-agent contract with Celtics
BOSTON (AP) -- Free agent Kevin Pittsnogle signed a two-year deal with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.
Pittsnogle, a 6-foot-11 center who is West Virginia's career 3-point leader, was passed over in June's NBA draft along with Mountaineers teammate Mike Gansey. Both played for the Miami Heat in a summer league, and Gansey signed a two-year deal with the Heat.
Pittsnogle led the Mountaineers with 19.3 points per game last season and was named to the All-Big East first team. He led West Virginia to the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament the past two seasons.
"Clearly, Kevin's strength is extending defenses with his range. He's big enough and he's got a quick trigger," agent Dan Tobin said. "He's a unique player, somewhat of a specialist at this point. We're trying to expand other areas of his game and I think that's what's going to help him make the transition."
Pittsnogle made 253 career 3-pointers and his 41.1 percent 3-point accuracy rate ranks second in school history. He is sixth in career scoring with 1,708 points.
