If he's thinking of leaving the NBA, that'd be huge. He's a big-ticket player and a legitimate force in the league. For the sake of NBA fans, I hope he stays."I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. Originally posted by mvblairThanks for the news, Rick. This is interesting. It's all anonymous sources and it doesn't say why he would leave Toronto, but implies that it's because of the insurance situation with Spain.

Latest news say that the Raptors are going in the upcoming days to pay him the last year of his contract and going to leave him as a free agent.
Imo the chances in this moment are 70% in returning to Spain and 30% in staying in the NBA (It would depend a lot in the offers he gets and from what teams he would get those offers). But taking into account that he's 31 and that he has spent the whole year without almost playing, i consider those reasons enough to start to think seriously about a possible return to Europe.
In the while, speculations have begun and say that Real and Unicaja would offer him almost the same ammount of money that he gets now fromn Toronto.Last edited by Neozyrus; 06-13-2008, 06:03 AM.I KISS BASKET

Crazy. This situation is absolutely crazy. I can't believe Toronto is just going to "excise" Garbajosa!! After the insurance situation, which Toronto has fought for, you'd think they'd try their best to keep Garbajosa. Crazy!!
If this happens and it's not just a rumor, some team is going to get a premier forward. Obviously Europeans want him back in Europe, but I want him in the NBA. He's a great team player and an incredible individual talent."I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. Garbajosa is the man. As I understood studying articles in LT newspapers, he could quit Raptors just because they won't let him play in NT and he realise that he is not bit_h like Ilgauskas and won't sell his life to some fat millionaire. Great respect to Garbajosa

It's official, Garba is not a Raptor anymore!
ESP – Garba, Raptors go separate ways
MADRID (Olympics) – Spain international star Jorge Garbajosa has parted ways with the Toronto Raptors.
The veteran, who missed nearly the entire season following surgery on his angle and leg, was recently named in Spain’s Olympic squad.
"I will not complete my year left in Toronto,†Garbajosa said.
“Now I will have to see what I do in the future. I have not considered anything because I've just signed my departure from Toronto.
“In the next 48 hours, I could receive offers from the NBA although I have not thought about anything."
Garbajosa did not say in the statement by the Spanish Basketball Federation if he had agreed a buyout with Toronto, but he did add: "This is a joint decision for various reasons.
“The most important of all, is that it was the best for all parties involved."
Garbajosa can now focus firmly on helping Spain try to follow up their world title and EuroBasket silver with another podium finish.
"The doctors are happy with how I'm feeling,†Garbajosa said. “(New Spain coach) Aito has spoken to me several times and he is interested in my situation. Aito is a great coach."
Spain Basketball Federation president Jose Luis Saez spoke of his happiness that Garbajosa is back to good health.
"Jorge is perfectly recovered from his injury and this for us is the best news,†he said.
“That is why we are really happy. To be able to have Jorge with us is gratifying because he is a player that has given everything to the national team and he wants to continue to give it.â€
Garbajosa was advised by Toronto last year not to play at the EuroBasket but the basketball federation secured an insurance policy on the eve of the tournament which allowed the power forward/center to take part in the tournament with Spain.
“A player who says that since he was a child his only team has been the national team he deserves that the national team gives everything for him," Saez said.

!?!?
This is really hard to believe!! Does anybody really know what happened?
I'm speculating that ever since Euro '07, when Toronto asked him not to play, he simply decided that he was going to cut ties. Maybe he had an "Ilgauskas clause" in his contract for the Olympics. Maybe the only way he could play for the NT was to end his contract."I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas
