  • Kidd to the Mavericks

Mavs and Nets made a huge trade..
    Kidd for Harris and Stackhouse

The Nets trade All-Star point guard Jason Kidd and Malik Allen to the Mavericks for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagana Diop, two first-round picks and cash, sources tell Tony Mejia of CBSSports.com.

things are getting more and more interesting on the west..
too bad for them that the team from east will win it all

IMO Dallas lost a lot with this one.. they lost starting PG and their sixth and seventh man which will shorten their bench and that could prove costly..

I think this deserves a separate thread, so I moved your post Picek.
I certainly agree with you, Dallas will have an excellent guard, but loses some very important players. I really can't decide if the balance is positive for the Mavs, but I'm inclined to do so. After all having Kidd in your team is absolutely a plus.
Things are hot indeed in the West.

Picek broke the Gasol trade here too. How do you know this stuff, Picek?
Kidd traded to Dallas in latest blockbuster deal-- By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports
      February 13, 2008

....The agreement would send five players, including point guard Devin Harris, and first round picks in 2008 and 2010

The two teams are still exchanging insurance information and going through the normal procedures with the league office to finalize the deal.

Kidd, who turns 35 next month, goes to Dallas with an unmistakable mandate: Bring a title for a team and career that are desperately seeking it. As part of the trade, the Mavericks would also send Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagna Diop, Maurice Ager and $3 million to New Jersey. Along with Kidd, the Nets send reserve forward Malik Allen to the Mavs.....

For New Jersey, president Rod Thorn brought back the three elements he most wanted for Kidd: a good young player (Harris), expiring contracts (Diop and George) and draft picks. What’s more, the Nets plan to buyout the rest of Stackhouse’s contract. Stackhouse can become an immediate free agent, but must wait 30 days to re-sign with Dallas...
Worjankwoski says that Stackhouse will return to Dallas in a month or so. ...I think the Mavs got a steal here. Devin Harris isn't that great. I think he's a little overrated, actually.

In a side deal, the Nets send Antoine Wright to the Mavs for a second round pick.

Devean George has reportedly vetoed the trade. Who does he think he is - Kobe Bryant?

Good trade... Kidd is very too much for Devin Harris.. Kidd is overrated but older
btw, Kidd come back in to Mavericks since Kidd was rookie in last decades.

Kidd-to-Mavs trade hits snag over Devean George's contract
By JAIME ARON, AP Sports Writer
                  February 13, 2008

Dallas Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson pauses during a news conference before the start of a basketball game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, in Dallas. Various media reports say New Jersey Nets' Jason Kidd is the centerpiece of a deal that will send Mavericks emerging point guard Devin Harris, veteran Jerry Stackhouse and reserves DeSagana Diop, Devean George and Maurice Ager to the Nets, with forward Malik Allen and Kidd going from New Jersey to the Mavericks.

DALLAS (AP) -- Jason Kidd appeared headed to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday -- until Devean George's contract got in the way.

George was supposed to be among the players headed to New Jersey, but he blocked it by not wanting to give up his "early Bird rights," a provision earned by being in his second year and on his second contract with the Mavericks.

Under the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, a player who has "early Bird rights" at the end of a contract -- like George has this year -- has veto power over a trade because he'd lose those rights if dealt. By keeping them, Dallas could exceed the salary cap to re-sign him.

"We're not trying to hold things up or be difficult, but just like teams make tough decisions all the time -- about cutting players or making trades -- they do what's best for their team, and it's my obligation to do what's best for Devean," his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Wednesday night.

"You don't want to stop teams from doing their business, but we don't feel like it makes sense at this time. He's starting right now and things are going pretty good."

That means Mavs seriuosly want to win NBA this or next year. Kidd is old and will not play so good in couple years.

I don't know how guy who is potential triple-double every night be overrated.

Devean George should be hanged by his balls for stoping this trade to happen.

After reading the article that Picek just posted, I think George is doing what is smart for him. It seems that if he goes with the Nets, he will lose the potential to make a lot more money. George is just doing what's best for him.

In my opinion, the NBA should not have such stupid rules about contracts and salary negotiations in the first place.

Kidd is smart player. He is veteran... When he was in Dallas alonging with Jamal Mashburn and Jim Jackson who were traded to other teams. Kidd was traded to Phoenix Suns from A.C. Green and Michael Finley after Mashburn trade to Miami and then Jim Jackson traded to Philadelphia 76ers from Shawn Bradley. The biggest blockbuster trade in NBA. After the trade Dallas have only 8 players remaining against at home of lowly Vancouver Grizzlies. Dallas new players traded were didn't played but only remaining veteran Derek Harper, Samaki etc. I mentioned them are 8 against complete and solid line-up of Vancouver. But Derek Harper led the Mavericks by 30pts and they won the game. 8 players from Dallas beat the complete of 12 players from Vancouver.
