  • Reggie Miller to come back?

Reggie Miller says he is contemplating a return to the NBA, this time with the Boston Celtics.

Miller, who turns 42 on Aug. 24, played his entire 18-year career with the Indiana Pacers before retiring in 2005. Since his playing days ended he has worked as a television analyst for TNT.

"I'm always flattered when my name is mentioned as someone who can still help an NBA team win a championship," Miller said Wednesday in a statement relayed to The Associated Press by the TNT network. "I've had limited discussions with Celtics management about their roster and a potential role for me. At this time, I'm enjoying my role as an analyst with TNT."

Miller was all set to continue that job when Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers asked him to think about joining their revamped team in a reserve role, playing about 15 minutes per game.

"[I have] contacted Reggie and he is contemplating a comeback with us," Ainge told The Associated Press through a team spokesman.

Miller said he is calling friends and peers, seeking their advice and listening to their feedback before he makes his decision. He still plays recreationally, but must determine if he wants to go through the physical and mental grind of an 82-game season. He also wonders how his body would respond to the intensive training it would take to get him back to NBA shape.

The lure of playing in Boston is simple: with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen added to Paul Pierce, the Celtics feel they have a shot at an NBA championship. Like those three players, the only thing missing from Miller's list of accomplishments is a championship ring.

It would b interesting 2 c him again in courts.Winning a championship is a big motive, so he may return 2 seeking that he deserved.I know that shooting can't b forgotten(it can even b improved with experience),he can surely hit a few shots(including some big ones), so the question 4 Miller is whether his body can support him.I'd like 2 c him back but only if he can really help a team. However, I think it's a big risk 2 return 4 a newly-built team like the Celtics.Nobody can guarantee any kind of success from this season so there is a possibility that Miller's effort could b wasted(if he decides it).

He really has nothing to lose imo. At 42 and being offered to play in a team with strong potential, he just has to accept it. As T.W.Is.M. pointed out this team might not work altogether and become a flop, but if it doesn't, then he could get his (deserved) ring. Nothing to lose at all, it's just one more chance.

I think he has sth 2 lose. The last impression is what remains in all of us and if he is unable 2 help, this is the last impression we will have:a Reggie Miller who will b a shadow of his old self. It's just like Jordan did. he shouldn't have returned 2 the Wizards but instead leave the game as champion and as the best of all...But I still lean into him taking the chance and trying one more time 4 that ring...If only Karl Malone could have another chance...

I am a huge Celtics fan and this excites me. Ainge (C's GM) is looking possibly at Charlie Bell most notably form MIL. The thing the Celtics need is DEFENSE. They have none. People dont sound too sold on Kendrick Perkins, but I;'ll net because he will get the starts and majority minutes now, he will perform well. Im not sayin 20-10, but a solid 7-13 ppg, 5-8 rpg will due.

Team chemistry wont be a problem because theyve all been on the losing end and are all connected one to another somehow thru high school ball tourneys. Pierce said hes willing to take a backseat and play a third option if thats what it takes to win. Ainge and Pierce say that they need vetrans and Ainge is doing that. These Big 3 have said theyll do whatever it takes to win, and I am sure Reggie will do the same. He will mentor young kids, like Rajon Rondo and Gabe Priutt. These 2 especially because they are guards. But he will bring experience and a great attitued on and off the court.

Both Allen and Pierce are in early 30's. KG isin his prime. Only Miller (if he would ) I believe would be the only 40+ yr.old player. Prewitt and Rondo are young players, early 20s. Kendrick Perkins is mid 20s and Bell is late 20s early 30s

It would be interesting indeed...at his prime he was a great shooter but a slow player imo. I wonder how slow he would be now

I actually hope he makes a come back. 10 bucks says he cant dunk

If Reggie Miller wants to comeback.. he might as well accept playing as an impact player off the bench.. with his calibre.. Boston can expect its 17th title with Garnett, Allen, Pierce and Miller
