Actually yes, I'm pretty sure... You can't evaluate a pick based on a crystal ball, nor you can use a crystal ball and say "they'll land a top-10 guy"... The Rockets are far from "finishing their rebuild" as you say and certainly don't have anyone to build around... If there is an impactful move happening, or if there is a rookie merging to become a leader it then dictates the upgrade on the listing.

The Cavs are in the mid of the ranking simply because they have started showing results and they are taking a step ahead every next day.

it's the 3rd season this thread runs and I think that despite it has hurt the feelings of some fans, it's proven to be quite accurate in its judgement...

      Lets go then...

FUTURE POWER RANKINGS (21-22 off-season revision)

      30. The Los Angeles Lakers: (Future potential: poor)

Carmelo Anthony — 37 years old (38 by the post season)
LeBron James – 36 years old (37 by the post season)
Trevor Ariza – 36 years old (37 by the post season)
Marc Gasol – 36 years old (37 by the post season)
Dwight Howard – 35 years old (turning 36 Dec. 8) (36 by the post season)
Wayne Ellington – 33 years old (34 by the post season)
Kent Bazemore – 32 years old (33 by the post season)
Russell Westbrook — 32 years old (33 by the post season)...

Are you signing Kareem and Magic next guys? Expect to beat the Bucks with wheel chairs?

I guess this "no tomorrow" roster needs no Einstein brain to understand that the Lakers have no plan for the next day.

      29. The Houston Rockets: (Future potential: Poor)

The car has crushed in multiple cases during the past and it led on multiple restorations one after the other. A proven policy to fail with no light at the end of the tunnel. The Rockets are on a rebuilt which ...hasn't even started or has a certain direction yet since there is nobody to be based upon and built around... The team is poor on future picks too.

      28. Detroit Pistons: (Future potential: Poor)

The Pistons are on the start of a rebuilt and are totally depended on how good their picks will prove to be in the future...

      27. The Orlando Magic: (Future potential: Poor)

Voucevic has gone, Gordon has gone, Isaac had a serious injury and the Magic are continuously weakening while the competition is advancing all the time. Bamba has never worked for them and the financials aren't stellar either to permit the necessary additions which are needed. No leader either and therefore the team is clearly out of the picture for the foreseeable future.

      26. Sacramento Kings: (Future potential: Questionable)

The (Serbian) management departed before the previous season and as expected, their best player on Bogdan Bogdanovic followed when he had the opportunity followed by Nemanja Bjelica... What is left is talented but not on a level to built around a contending team. No light at the end of the tunnel either while the competition is continuously progressing.

      25. The Indiana Pacers: (Future potential: Questionable)

Clearly the largest negative surprise of the previous season which caused a big downgrade in this list, the Pacers seem to be all over the place and certainly not in a position to challenge anymore the contenders of the league... There is some talent on the roster, but no leader able to lead the team towards success while the competition advances rapidly.

      24. Philadelphia 76ers: (Future potential: Questionable)

Another disappointing season for the Sixers and one that has dictated "big changes" but has revealed the problems too... The F.O had the "bright" idea to extend Simmons and T.Harris on insane (max) contracts which don't expire before another ...4 seasons later and as a consequence, they are extremely difficult to move... However, the Sixers insist to overvalue their contracts much higher than what the market is prepared to pay and it all comes down to a no end circulation while the competition advances rapidly. The more the Sixers insist on denying the truth, the more the Sixers will sink...

      23. The Toronto Raptors: (Future potential: Questionable).

The Raptors have signed Van Vleet, Siakam and Anunoby on huge contracts in order to secure their presence with the team in the long term and will (obviously) built around them. Lowery doesn't obviously serves their time table anymore and was traded, Ibaka with Gasol departed to end their careers on other destinations. Whether the trio of youth can carry the team to its past glory at the future it remains to be seen, but the competition is growing stronger all the time and Siakam isn't Giannis, neither Anunoby is Middleton, nor Van Vleet is anywhere near to ever become Jrue Holliday...

      22. Brooklyn Nets: (Future potential: Questionable)

The Nets have the highest payroll in the league which led them to loose a valuable future piece on Shamet, but did manage to resign Brown and they have agreed to a long term extension with one of the best players the game has ever seen on Kevin Durant. Obviously for another season they are major competitors to the Bucks and any other contender, but this will be the final season in which they will be able to retain all of their "big three" together. Whether they can surround Durant and Morris with enough power, if they can retain Brown in the long term and if they will extend Claxton to continue contending after this season, remains to be seen.

      21. Minnesota Timberwolves: (Future potential: Questionable)

KAT is a good player, but definitely not enough to built around a contending team, whether the recent (high) picks will prove to be enough to provide another leader, still remains to be proved... It won't be anytime soon though, IF it happens at all...

      20. The Portland Trail Blazers: (Future potential: Questionable)

Another disappointing season, which seems to lead Lillard out... It will however be very difficult to find a partner which will provide enough return to satisfy Lillard's worth and convince Portland to move him, therefore, for this upcoming season the Blazers are expected to run by staying put and have another go seeking some success... If they fail again, expect them to go into a rebuild and move towards the bottom of this listing.

      19. San Antonio Spurs: (Future potential: Questionable)

Much the same as the rest of the "questionable future" teams, the Spurs have invested on lots of young talent, but still luck the leader to turn the team into contenders for the title and there doesn't seem to be anything at large either. Given that the team is one which prefers to "give birth" on stars, rather than buying them and at least for as long as coach Pops has the last word, this will keep being the case in San Antonio.

      18. The Los Angeles Clippers: (Future potential: Promising)

All of the sudden, the Clippers seem to need more to add in order to keep up with the continuously advancing competition... They did renew Kawahi for another three seasons, which at least ensures contending for that much, but there is shortage on picks and the ideal fits next to Leonard and George seem to be locked on other teams.

      17. OKC Thunder: (Future potential: Promising)

It's a mystery why the Thunder have left all their star veterans depart while there was no financial need to do so... Still, this is by far the "richest" team in the league on future draft picks and therefore, the most flexible. Financials are excellent, but why start from scratch when they could keep investing in their future, while keeping the competitive team they had at the same time?

      16. Memphis Grizzlies: (Future potential: Promising)

What the Grizzlies are doing beats me! They gave away Valanciounas (one of the best centers in the league) and then Allen (who despite his "dirty playing" reputation was quite effective for them) both for questionable return which includes an inferior to Val center on Adams... Still lots of talent in the roster, but they have to legitimately pursue a playoff seed instead of fighting and losing during the qualification tournament which proceeds the post season. However, after the questionable moves mentioned earlier, it seems it will be the case again for this upcoming season.

      15. Cleveland Cavaliers: (Future potential: Promising)

The Cavs are becoming better by the day and have settled on a certain direction. They have selected Okoro to built around and indeed he looks to be a highly promising piece. Can the addition of Mobley alongside Okoro provide a power duo and with the solid presence of Garland become a playoffs team? Time will tell.

      14. The Washington Wizards: (Future potential: Promising)

Like with the Cavs before them are building around Okoro, the Wizzards have clearly selected Hatchimura to build around and the young man seems to be an extremely good choice. Beal is of course the prime force and the replacement of Westbrook with (proven) Dinwiddie, surely fits their time table much better... If the rest of their youth soon takes the next step, the Wizards seem able to better from being a low seed playoff team and perhaps could challenge a 2nd round promotion soon... Again, we will soon know.

      13. The Denver Nuggets: (Future potential: Promising)

It's been a very disappointing season for the Nuggets after being swept out in the 2nd round by the Suns and despite them having Murray's injury as an excuse, a real contending team doesn't get swept if its 2nd star gets injured... They may lose because of the absence, but they shouldn't get swept... Truth is that Jokic has extremely high basketball IQ and can really play-make and shoot, but he is also very slow in the legs, not athletic enough and certainly not the strongest big in the league... They need more star-power if they are looking to stand out and contend.

      12. Charlotte Hornets: (Future potential: Good)

The Hornets feel ready to become a playoff team and have invested on proven veterans of young age to surround their very talented youth this season, Kelly Oubre playing next to Hayward is certainly above the league's average and Mason Plumlee adds depth within their bigs, Ball won ROY a season earlier and along with Rosier, Bridges and Washington, they form a highly talented roster with still lots of upside in reserve... They are among the teams to watch this season and even more so in the future.

      11. Utah Jazz: (Future potential: Good)

The Jazz finished the postseason with the best record in the league, but for once more, they couldn't make it to the Western finals which caused lots of disappointment, changes in the roster are inevitable, but as long as Conley, Mitchell and Gobert are there, one can't count them out of the picture just yet... They still have to prove themselves though.

      10. The Boston Celtics: (Future potential: Good)

Unexpectedly, the Celtics have traded Kemba Walker and in return, they got the extremely bad contract of aging Hortford back... They then signed Schroeder out of free agency in order to fill back Kemba's absence in the PG position. The only obvious benefit one can conclude out of the head-scratching move, is the financial flexibility they were able to create. Additionally they refused to extend the contract of Semi Ojeleye (an excellent young defender) who the Bucks grabbed the opportunity and signed out of free agency. Hortford will of course make back for Ojeleye's absence in their defense and of course, the core duo of Tatum and Brown is locked for many seasons to come... Yet, unless there can be a third star player with the right chemistry to supplement Tatum and Brown, the Celtics can only remain a team which will make the playoffs but no more than this.

9.The Chicago Bulls: (Future potential: Good)

It seems that the absence from the front stage for so long has waken the Bulls up... After trading to add Voucevic, they've added more valuable pieces on Ball and Caruso this season and of course DeRosan is still a very effective scorer. On top, their under rookie contracts players and LaVine seem to gradually step up and appear to be talented too. They do need more if they are to take the next step and contend, but now they at least have a dangerous team which will be in the playoffs and will fight for a 1st round promotion.

      8. Miami Heat: (Future potential: Good)

The Heat live and breath with the vision to be contenders... They've extended Butler for another four seasons and young Robinson is a solid rotational piece... Adebayo is their 2nd star but after what the young big has suffered from Giannis on the court this season, he must have realized that he has to improve further. They are experienced enough to understand that there is more needed and therefore traded for aging but always stellar player on Lowry... Hero otoh does not seem to have taken the next step from his previous season performance and the addition of another aging star on P.J. Tucker will fill up the hole in defense that Iggy left after parting with the team and headed back to the Warriors to end his career there, but will be 37 by the next season's playoffs and surely, along with Lowery, not the pieces to count upon for the future. It seems for once more they will be active during the trade period and will have an eye on contract buy outs too, but as they look now they are still a step behind contending and the age of Butler isn't extremely future promising.

      7. Golden State Warriors: (Future potential: Good)

The Warriors have the worst payroll than any other team in the league and are repeaters tax eligible this season. Therefore they will have to "retire" Thompson and ask the league for "salary relief" so that they can return to a normal payroll... It doesn't mean that Thompson won't get payed for the rest of his contract though... Thompson will still get payed in full, he just won't be working anymore, but this way, the Warriors will be able to wipe all of his salary off the books... This given, the Warriors have extended Curry for as long as his career lasts and at the same time, while based on Curry, Wiggins and Green, are moving to a rebuilt with the rest of their roster. The presence of the most successful star in the entire league on Curry and the age of (still young enough) Wiggins as a supplement, as well as the high in the ladder lottery picks they've collected in the process, makes the return back to contend all the more visible in the near future.

      6. Dallas Mavericks: (Future potential: Good)

I'm not sure what exactly they are doing in Dallas... They have a top-5 in the world player and leader (perhaps the No2 behind Giannis) in their roster on Doncic, which makes them by definition a legitimate contender and yet, although they have all the money in the world to surround Doncic with enough to fight for something really good, they are only a low seed playoffs team... In any case, the presence of Doncic alone and his age, makes Dallas a capable team for the future but as well as for the present... It's only a batch of man power to surround him with which is missing...

      5. New Orleans Pelicans: (Future potential: Bright)

After AD's departure, the Pels moved to a rebuilt around Zion... I'm not sure why did they choose to do so with all the cap space they had in reserve... They could have kept Jrue Holiday instead and still continue with their rebuilt, but in any case it's what they decided to do. This season they've added a proven (and highly underestimated) center on Valanciounas next to Zion and Ingram and this should be enough to turn them into a playoffs seed team. In any case the future is guaranteed for them given their stars age.

      4. New York Knicks: (Future potential: Bright)

The Knicks finished the regular season 4th in the East during the previous season, which came as a surprise to many given how stronger the East has become with respect to the West... Based on Randle, Rose and RJ Barret they've added a great scorer on Evan Fournier this season, but one of the best point guards in the league on Kemba Walker too... Make no mistake... The Knicks are back and are here to stay.

      3. Atlanta Hawks: (Future potential: Bright)

The Hawks had a stellar season during 20-21 and only lost in the Eastern finals from the champions Bucks after taking out the Knicks and then the best record in the East Sixers which they've beaten three times in Philly... Trae Young is surely an all star level point guard, but the team has a lot of upside left on all Huerter, Collins, Okongwe and Capella given their age and much help from their veterans on Bogdanovic, Gallinari and Williams too... This season they've made no addition through free agency being busy to extend both Young and Collins and lock them with the team in the long term. They obviously can only become better season after season.

      2. Phoenix Suns: (Future potential: Bright)

The Suns have proved they can win without CP3 based on their young roster, Booker has grown to become a top-10 player in the league and Ayton is as solid a rim protector and paint threat a big can be (but of Giannis of course). The team is additionally superbly coached and has a deep, reliable and capable young roster to surround Booker and Ayton next to their stellar chemistry. They've extended CP3 to end his career in Phoenix and as long as the West is weak and the competition is either based on aging teams with no tomorrow, or on selfish stars which would need two or three balls on the court to perform their best, they'll be the team to beat in the West in years to come.

1.The Milwaukee Bucks: (Future potential: Bright)

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the best player in the world... The only big ever that can play PG with superb passing ability, can move better than all wings in the league, is the ultimate rim protector and absolutely unstoppable in the paint... Khris Middleton is Giannis' ideal partner in spacing the floor for him with his stellar shooting, but his superb play-making and defense too, Jrue Holiday is the league's best defending guard and one of the best ball handlers with superb court vision abilities the game has ever seen. The Bucks have their "big-3" locked under contract for many years to come and have the bird rights of the under rookie contract, growing fast to become an all star, combo guard Donte Divincenzo. This season, they 've convinced Bobby Portis to come back on an extremely team friendly contract and along with that, they also obtained his bird rights to secure their future starting five.

They won the championship with Divincenzo out due to injury and with extremely limited roster depth to support their starters in order to keep the financials under control and despite the very limited rotation depth and the injuries, even proved that they are good enough to be a mid of the ladder playoffs team by having beaten the Hawks without Giannis and Divincenzo in the Eastern finals. This season they've worked and achieved to built back their roster depth, but to significantly improve their age average too in order to secure contending for as long as Giannis career lasts... This is the team which any other organisation is looking to be able and compete against for the present and all of the future.
