  • No More NBA Plans for Europe

NBA No Longer Interested In European Expansion
    Oct 15, 2012 3:13 PM EDT

David Stern has abandoned the concept of expanding the NBA to Europe.

Most of the basketball arenas in Europe are smaller than what the NBA typically feels is acceptable for an NBA team.

“I don’t think having a single team in Europe is practical,” Stern said last week in Milan before watching the Celtics take on Emporio Armani Milano. “I never have.

“What I’ve said is if we’re going to have an NBA presence here in terms of the league, it should be five teams. It’s safe to say that there aren’t enough buildings, there aren’t adequate TV arrangements, we don’t have owners, and I’m not sure we could charge the prices that would be necessary. I don’t think our fans are that avid yet.

“But every year it gets better. Every year we have more fans. They tune into our games more. We now have an arena in London and one in Berlin that could probably house an NBA team. There is a planned renovation for Bercy in Paris that will be some years off.”
Was there even a plan in the first place? And how viable was it?
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

They are moaning because the Euro teams beat them and they don't like it as usual. There are plenty of arena's in Europe that could house the NBA. He mentioned London O2 plus there's Manchester's M.E.N Arena which is 16/17,000 seats! Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg/ There's countless in Russia, there's one in Croatia, even in Latvia!

The expansion was a complete nonsense and a lunatic plan. Just words with no real possible application. Glad Stern finally came to his senses.

Never a realistic possibility in the first place.

Barcelona Tigers haha! I love that. NBA would never allow FC Barcelona as a team name. Maybe now we'll see a London based Euroleague team instead. Which is better idea anyway
