  • ESPN's Unguarded - The Chris Herren Story

GREAT documentary on Chris Herren who used to run with Skip out at Fresno State under my dude Tark the Shark and ran with his hometown Celtics for a minute. Here's the full documentary for anyone who missed it...

Live in Massachusetts, the Herren brothers are legends. Michael was the typical, not gifted athletically but worked hard and became the best player in the state, putting up over 2,000 points at Durfee HS. Chris was phenomenal, hyped up since he was in middle school. He was pretty gifted athletically and talent wise although at times his work ethic was questioned. It was a shame he didn't win a title his senior year. For anyone really interested in his high school years, read Fall River Dreams.

He was a bit before my time, but I don't think "typical" is a word that would often be used to describe him...he was not that big, not that athletic, and not that skilled, yet perhaps a more dominant HS player than Ewing.

I didn't see him play in HS, but I did see the New Bedford team that won state those years, and the description in Fall River Dreams was probably accurate...they were deeper and more athletic than Durfee.
