Music Mogul To Create Professional League To Rival D-League

Steve Rifkind is starting an American-based basketball league called the American Basketball League.

Rifkind is the founder and chairman of Loud Records, as well as the CEO of SRC Records. Rifkind has worked with many hip hop musicians and also has worked on many marketing campaigns.

An inaugural 24-game, 12-team season will begin in January of 2013.

It will challenge the NBA's D-League by paying as much as $3,000 per month and serve as an overseas player feeder.

The league will be based in Miami, San Antonio, San Marcos, Sugarland, College Station, Ft Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Fort Walton Beach, Sebring and Corpus Christi.

The league will use FIBA rules.

The D-League does not feel threatened. This is a very minor league that will perhaps muster lesser D1 players alongside D2 and D3 players.

The Los Angeles D-Fenders have announced that former New Mexico state / Sacramento Kings coach Reggie Theus will be the head coach of the team.

He is the oldest player to try out for the D-League.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have appointed Darko Rajakovic as the head coach of the Tulsa 66ers. Rajakovic is the first European head coach of the D-League.

The Los Angeles D-Fenders have signed NBA swingman Jamario Moon.

Maine Red Claws certainly picked up activity as they have been burning the midnight oil in trading for more picks in the coming draft. They have eight confirmed slots for training camp and will have four selections in the coming draft.

For tomorrow night's draft, Jajuan Johnson is expected to go first overall.

Jajuan Johnson went first overall, while former LA Lakers sophomore Andre Goudelock went second overall. Justin Harper was third overall.

Darnell Jackson - Former Kansas JayHawks. Had a brief stint with the Sacramento Kings in the 2010-2011 years. Was a member of the Kings 2012 Summer League squad. Helped show Thomas Robinson the rigors of the NBA summer activities.

Marcus Landry - Former Kings training camp invitee from two seasons ago. His brother, Carl currently plays for the Golden State Warriors. Carl is a former Kings member as well.

Other invites are: Anthony Richardson, Cyril Awere, Adrian Oliver, Chris Ayer, Suleiman Braimoh, and Brandon Armstrong.

I was hoping Tony Mitchell was heading to the BigHorns.

Landry and Richardson played for the BigHorns in the 2010-2011 D-League season. Management likes them that much.

It won't be much of an NBA D-League season without former NBA starters.

First one is Troy Hudson, a former starting point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves back when Kevin Garnett was there. Hudson has not played an NBA game since 2008. Now, Hudson is in the training camp roster of the Sioux Falls Sky Force, a D-League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
